Yellow Tang - Redness

Hey guys,

I have a yellow tang that has developed a reddish rash on some parts of his body and fins. Any ideas as to the most effective medications from what I have been reading, its a bacterial infection. This guy eats like an absolute champ, there is no loss of apatite at all.

This does look like a bacterial issue I would give him either an Acriflavin or a paraguard bath then place him in a qt tank and dose Kanaplex. You may want to add in furan2 and metroplex with the Kanaplex of it worsens.

I'm assuming this won't just go away with a good diet? Catching this guy is going to be super hard in my display tank but I have a few ideas I can give a shot st trying to catch him.

Didn't you just have a fish with something else? Ick maybe? The reason I ask is I can't remember your last fish problem but let's make sure we're not dealing with something systemic were all the fish are gong to be infected.

My tank is in its third week of hypo right now cause one of the fish had Ich. After the first week of hypo, no signs of Ich and I plan on holding the Salk it's st 1.009 for another 42 days.

Ok that helps, the fish has probably developed a secondary infection due to the ick there's a couple of options were your treating in the DT you could try adding seachem stressguard it has a anticeptic in it, or catch the fish and give it an Acriflavine or paraguard bath. The second option if you go through the all the trouble of catching the fish I would put him in a sterile tank at the same SG as the display and dose Kanaplex

Thanks for the reply. Is Seachem Stressguard reef safe?

You can dose it everyday until symptoms are clearing up. Keep in mind stressguard is a very mild option I mentioned to you because you are treating in a DT keep us informed on how it works. I will stress that if the symptoms get worse you will need to treat more aggressively in a qt.

I'll definitely keep you posted. It should be arriving by Friday and I will start the treatment the same day.

So good news, I completed two treatments of StressGuard and the yellow tang looks completely better. I plan to continue for a week, but even after the first day of treatment there was a very noticeable improvement.
