Yellow Tang Tank Size

I think maybe what TampaReefer79 meant was that even after the end of the cycle, the system won't have matured and stabilized until much later; and therefore wouldn't be ready for fishes like tangs, which really do require pristine water quality. Captive-bred clownfish are much more robust than tangs.

I've kept three marine tanks so far (all of but one of them with captive-bred clownfish). I've always added my pair of clowns a week or two after the cycle was completed, with no problems (but I didn't add any more fish until months later). You seem pretty cautious and conscientious to begin with and you have experience, so I think you should be fine. Have you decided on a species?

 UNC to the rescue! You read my mind exactly.

I think clowns are one of the most interesting fish to keep. When we get into the hobby we see clowns first but get side tracked by other more expert fish but at the end of the day theres nothing to beat watching the relationship between a pair of clowns. I realised that when i traded in my agressive maroon and got a false perc pair. They are so comical. Love watching them go about their everyday lives. They're getting over their arguments now and settling down. The female is growing larger and bosses the male around. They've hosted my toadstools and i adore them. One of the best fish in my opinion.

Couldn't have said it better myself. :) Clownfish are sometimes derided as common and beginners' fish, but I think there's a place for them in almost every tank. They fit into just about any aquascape: mixed reef, macroalgae, SPS, softies, LPS, FOWLR, you name it. I love my CB black ocellaris--they're more interactive than any other fish I've kept. They seem more interested than afraid when I periodically redecorate their Solana, never harass any of their tankmates, leave my corals alone, and take everything in their stride--it's all good, as long as they get fed regularly. ;)
