Yellow tang :/

got the yellow tang almost a week ago. it is arond 4" long, healthy looking, swimming around, though hides when somebody comes close to the tank. i haven't seen it eating at all which is worrying me. i put some sea weed on a clip, there is algae on LR, and i even put some caulerpa in the tank. i know it needs to eat or else he will get sick and die. the other thing that the fish does is, it is always after either cleaner shrimp or pepermint shrimp waiting to be cleaned. what do you think?

Offer it a piece of medium krill. Not ideal, but most fish will go for it.

What meaty foods have you tried feeding? The 3 yellows that I've kept all liked mysis, spirulina brine, and most other small meaty foods. They also really liked NLS and formula 2 pellets. While meaty foods are not good as a staple diet for tangs, they work to get them started eating and fat.

You can also try shredding up some nori in your fingers and let it blow around the tank. That is how I got my powder blue and achilles to start eating. If the yellow will eat nori out of the water column, then it will learn to eat off of a clip too.

Brine shrimp is like fish candy. I have used it successfully to get fish started.

spirulina brine dosed in garlic, that should do the trick. if not then try some live brine.

he started eatng last night, crushed sea weed and flakes. now i have to teach it how to eat of a clip LOL
