I'm in the process of finding a bigger home for my oscar-who currently lives in a 60 gallon.
I upgraded my 10 gallon nano thanks to pet-co's dollar per gallon sail into a 29 gallon. I currently have 2 occelaris clowns, and azure damsel who is suprisingly very tame and a cleaner shrimp. I realy like yellow tangs and I was wondering if I can put it in the 29 gallon (as a juvi) and then when i get the bigger tank for the oscar ill move it into the 60 gallon.

That might work for the short term. Tangs need areas to swim in to be healthy and happy. I would recommend a 75g as the smallest tank to attempt to keeping tangs. I'm sure someone will disagree but the fact is anything smaller should be considered fish abuse!

thanks for the reply. with extra water changes shouldnt the 60 be just as good as the 75. Also I've seen alot of reefers keeping a single tang in a 55 gallon and they seem pretty successful. I also have an off topic question about the smaller triggers-like the picasso and blue throat in a 55 gallon. Ive read that the picasso can be kept in a 55 gallon it seems pretty accurate since they only get like 9inches and are very slow growers. http://www.fishchannel.com/fish-species/saltwater-profiles/picasso-triggerfish-2.aspx

55 is too small for the blue throat, they get big

Why don't you be the one knowledgeable member that tells him a 55 is WAY to small. A 9" trigger in a 55 gal tank is crazy, not even close. LA suggests a 180 for an adult Huma, I agree.

Lots of folks can keep a tang "alive" in a 55. Alive and "thriving" are two different things.
