Yellow Tang.

I bought a yellow tang about 3-4 days ago, he was completely yellow now on the fifth day he has a white line going down each side of him. Does anyone know what this is?

Sounds like the lateral line - on my YT's sometime they show up in the early morning, but most of the time they don't. My largest one shows it a little more often, so showing it may have something to do with size or dominance

Yea thats when you can see it the most around those times but you can usally see it all the time its not anything bad its just something on there body. Thats what i think but iam not totally sure.

Please educate gilson782 not critisize him/her. Its show's hobby experience as 3 months so likely he/she got bad advice from a lfs. I hate to see people get bashed on here for not knowing. We should be educating the new people not bashing them. I've learned soooooo much from RC and hate to see people bash someone for not knowing and scare them off completly. So with that being said please let gilson782 know its not good to have a tang in a tank that size not beat him/her up.

Great post.

Yes if you have the tang in the 24 gallon PLEASE take him back to the pet store. He will not be happy in there. There are many other fish better suited to a 24 gallon than a tang. I am not trying to be mean.

Thanks, its very true. I've had a reef tank for over 3 years but in my hobby experience i have " experience??" thats because im still learning and probally will the whole time i have a tank. I just hate to see people that make a honest mistake get their butts chewed for it. Alot of us need to log and and read the main page instead of just going to our account, it states right at the top......

"Reef Central is an online community where quality information about the marine and reef aquarium hobby can be exchanged among all levels of hobbyist from beginner to advanced. Our goal is to help educate people about the saltwater aquarium hobby and enhance awareness of the fragility of coral reefs around the world. We hope you will join us and that you find this site useful."

I've seen so many people post on here and people treat them like idiots when they just dont know. We were all idiots at one time about the hobby, thats why we use this site. we all had to start somewhere.
