I have coming in on a order a yellow target mandarin he's a pretty rare fish. I purchased one not to long ago. I can easily cancell the order i just wanted to see if anyone wanted to buy him before i cancell, i am going to pick him up thursday. 15.00 doolars He's pretty cool you can google him and see his pic. I just figured that these dont come around all the time and i was trying to give someone a chance to own it. Unfortunatlly i cant keep him due to my ich issue that i thought i would resolve alot quicker. Please pm me today or i will cancell the order thanks.

Very cool fish, but I need to get my tank more established before trying a Mandarin. Good luck!

They do have an extremely heavy duty slime coat, but they are not impervious to ich. I have seen many mandarins in my day afflicted by this parasite.

If you pair two mail togeather they will battle same w/ 2 females! Id recomed not mixing same sexes! Corect me if im wrong Jon or anyone!

How do you sex a mandarin?

Hope the wife doesn't read this she is part Chinese, and after 13 years of marriage I should know by now!

Seriously, is it by fins or something else?

I need to know too - I bought a mated pair with one smaller and the other one fish noticeably larger. The larger one died within the first week and the small one is what I've had now for about a year.

I think with percs the small one is the male and larger the female - is it the same with mandarin's?

Yes, the spike first dorsal spine is how you tell the sex. The problem is that these fish are all kept together in holding tanks at the wholesale facilities, and when they get together in groups, they fight, just as charlie mentioned. Many of the times, what you think are females from a wholesaler are just males who have lost their dorsal spine fighting with other males in holding tanks. Be very very careful if you are not purchasing a true paired set of mandarins. I wouldnt add it to your system unless you knew for sure that yours was male/female, and only after the new addition has been in quarentine for several months to see if the spine grows back (which it does)!
Cheers~!
Jon
