Yellow True Perc

What can you guys tell me about true percs with yellow coloration oppossed to orange coloration?....im guessing he is around 9months old and has yellow coloration and it contrasts nicely against my rod's onyx

The lighter color true percs are usually just from a random location. True percs from SI or PNG tend to be more of the vivid orange color.

If its a tank bred clown (because you stated age) it could be the foods the breeder fed. I got a true perc from ******** that was yellow but the clown was only about 4 months old. Its color is now just as bright as my rods after feeding better foods.

The reason i got him was due to the yellow coloration and im hoping he stays that way.... i feed rods food and hopefully the caratonoids don't color him up orange...also don't they also color up according to their environment? if so im wondering what kinds of environments cause different colorations....i understand i might not get all the answers i need but i will continue to look and or investigate an answer

the yellow makes me think malnourished, watch out, that rods food will turn him jet black and dark orange.... lol

he is captive....9 months because he is a little bit bigger than my 6month old clown and his 3rd bar is half way in

A lot of the younger captive bred ones I see come in as yellow but change over as they get older (perhaps also fed different foods)

I have a blobbie that is definitely on the yellow side and i am excited to see if there will be a transformation (should get some good black in too)

clownfish can't synthesize beta carotene that is found in foods such as shrimp. I saw a study done by some students at FIT about certain foods in the industry to make the orange (natural color) in a clownfish come though. they had a "yellow" clownfish of all different ages. they found it was the type of feed that kept them from their natural color of orange. tetra flake was obviously the worst and i believe there was no change, cyclopeeze was the best and took the clownfish only 60 days to change, and gellybelly was a close second. formula one flake was third. i do not believe rods food was tested during this study. so if you want your clown to stay yellow, feed him foods without shrimp! keep in mind this study was done on ocellaris and percula.
