Yellow Watchman Goby with no tail

I saw a beautiful yellow watchman goby at the LFS today and brought him home. Problem is that he is missing his tail! Didn't notice it at the shop because his rear was under a rock. Question is will it grow back? I've had fish fight where a fin was shreaded and they always grew back. Guess it will depend on who far back the damage happened. Any input is appreciated.

If the damage excludes the peduncle (the fleshy base of the tail) it should grow back. If it's into the peduncle, it's a problem and the fish may not survive. If it is into the peduncle, I'd do a precautionary treatment with Maracyn, in a hospital tank. And I'd let the fish store know it. They owe you the Maracyn.

What he said ^ but more importantly, the reaction of your LFS will give you an excellent indication of their customer orientation and willingness to stand behind their product. If they are anything other than supportive, I would change LFS if it is possible.
