Yellow Watchman Goby

I have looked and looked and I can find any definitive information regarding YWG changing from yellow to gray with darker strips and blue spots. I know he is not under stress. Does it have something to do with sexual majurity or is this a different type of YMG. In my search I have seen many YWG that have changed color, even breeding pairs, yet no information as to why.

The gray with blue spots is a different type of ywg. As far as I know they don't change color but I could be wrong

They do change color but it seems to be random. If you do a forum 'search' and read other threads on YWG, you will find that many people have experienced the color fade when they add one to their tank. I wanted a YWG but after reading some of these testimonials I've changed my mind, as I only have a 35g and don't want to add a fish that may or may not keep it's coloration. Good luck.

In the wild they change color it has to do with sexual majurity or something and in my tank if he was sleeping and i turned the lights on he turns like white gray for 30 sec. then comes back to yellow

Determining Sex: Males tend to be bright white and females tend to more grey in color. It is unclear if the species is sexually dimorphic but the males and females can both change color.

Thank you very much. In my researching of this question some of the biggest names in SW and Marine Biology stated it was caused by stress and I knew in my case and many others this was not the case:rollface:
