Yellow water

I sat my tank up Wednesday. I had the rock and sand placed in the tank and added rodi water that I had added salt mix to. I have a jebao pump that I was using but turned it off due to the fact is was blowing my sand everywhere. I have the small very fine sand. My water is yellow. My filter sock is dirty as can be from I assume the dust from the sand. How can I fix this? Or will I need to just start over?

That seems perfectly normal to me. Did you thoroughly rinse the sand before you put it in the tank? The fines left behind (even if you did rinse) will take some time to settle out. Change your filter sock. I'd even consider filling it with white filter floss (pillow stuffing) and changing it out a couple times a day until it clears.

Normal/Totally fine... Just wait it out.. It will settle/clear up

You've got a month of cycling anyways so waiting is what you will be doing..

I didn't rinse the sand. Some of it was dry and other was live. I know my filter sock is brown. I'll get some of the filter floss and put in the sock.

yep.. Just keep cleaning out the filter sock and give it time..
It will clear up..

Should I run carbon in it? Will that help?
Yes it can help "some"... But its not a mechanical filter.. Its chemical..

Sand issues are solid particulates that need to settle out of suspension or be removed via mechanical means..

Just wait it out/keep those socks going.. No need to waste money on carbon at this point..

And relax.. Its normal.. Don't overthink/get bothered..

Yea i made the same mistake with sand. I just keep my socks clean and waited. It took a couple days and then it looked fine. I already had carbon in, I replaced a couple days after the water cleared to make sure it wasn't clogged.

I also vacuumed the sand a good bit before I added fish and corals. I did this to get out the dust settled in the sand. I used the trick that syphons forever into the sump through a filter sock. Not sure that was needed but Im a bit OCD.

So it's been a week and no changes at all. Should I start to worry?

Have you been cleaning your filter sock?
Are you running carbon?
Have you reduced flow to not blow it around?

If you did all 3 just give it more time..
If you didn't do one or more of those then do it..

I make sure the filter sock is clean and I've been the floss stuff in there as well to help. I've added extra filters between baffles. I only have a small jebao wavemaker in there and I have my return pump dialed down. I have not added carbon.

I've added carbon. The skimmer was going so crazy that I had to put a sock on the end of the tube otherwise I was losing so much water. I even have it in shallow water and on max, if I turn it down it just overflows. Thoughts?

New skimmers always foam over for a while. Run it with the cup off until it calms down. A flocculant like Seachem Clarify will help your sock work better by causing the fine particles to aggregate.

I added clarity. My first filter sock went from white to brown. I swapped it out and it's turning brown as well. The water looks more clear but still have a yellow tint almost green. I have noticed the rocks are turning a yellow/brown color with little things on the rock that are also in the corners of the tank. Am I going through some kind of algea bloom?
