Yellowstone

If you see two old guys flinging 'boo rods who don't seem like they know what they're doing, one of 'em is my dad ;)

I haven't seen a thousand photos of Yellowstone, but seen a number of documentaries... these are fantastic! Definitely in my top 5 of places to visit in NA.

Like the one from Mammoth. Yellowstone is amazing. In fact I'm thinking to do a winter trip there! I shudder to ponder what the crowds must be like in the summer now. Last time I was there was about 10 years ago.

Out of curiosity did you use a polarizer for these images?

Hey Nate. I saw quite a few feather flingers and it was extremely painful for me to be in that area without a rod. It was really just a "Drive-by" trip.

they're beautiful. especially like the last 2

Thanks Ragga. Those last two are from Mormon Row north of Jackson Wyoming. These barns are the most photographed historic barns in North America. https://www.google.com/search?q=mor...azyATE3ILYBQ&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=680

I have a friend who goes in the winter. He has photographed some insane wildlife including wolves on a kill. He said he focuses on the North entrance, from Gardner to the winter closure and it can be non stop wildlife photo ops.
I did not use a filter on these. The only post processing I did was on the barns. The structures themselves need a pass of lightening

Thanks guys for the nice comments. I wish I could have stayed longer (The whole month of Sept would be nice! ;))

Heres a short video I put together for my facebook. Its got a few more images than whats posted here.

Beautiful photos of an amazing part of the country Jay!

I am fortunate my mother lives not far from the north entrance of the park. I love fishing the Yellowstone.

ah, so to those who know, tell me more about the winter. I've seen some photo tours based out of the old faithful lodge. I'm not very familiar with Yellowstone compared to say Denali :). Is it best to stay in the park, or out? Any vendors recommended to go with or stay away from?

I always like a polarizer for water. Especially in Yellowstone where it can reveal those crazy colors the microorganism's make in the pools. Getting rid of that surface reflection is like opening a door to color saturation! At least that's been my experience there.
