yellowtail damselfish group

I want to get a couple more fish to feed my corals. My current list:

1) purple tang
2) flame angel
3) melanurus wrasse
4) pair of onyx perculas

I want to get a small school of fish, I was leaning toward getting 3 or 5 yellowtail damsels. Would this be too many damsels? I would get chromis but my fish are pretty territorial and would need more of an agressive fish.

would a trio work out better than 5? or would 2 pair off leaving one on its own?

its either a trio of these guys or a pair of carberryi anthias

I've seen a trio split up three ways. Its in a 280 so that may be the reason. They only come together at feeding time.

My experience with yellowtail damsels is that they will eventually end up as a pair. I've tried twice to keep a group and each time ended up with a mated pair after the weaker fish are killed off. Interestingly enough I have had the exact same experiences with chromis but it takes lot longer for the cromis to kill each other off. I have heard that folks have had success with small groups of Talbot's damsels.

If you like yellowtails, then definitely check out Azure Damsels, I have 5 of them. They are less aggressive than yellowtails. Neither yellowtail or azures will really school.

Green chromis would be a better choice for a shoal provided they have alot of flow. I really like the yellow line green chromis on Live Aquaria.

I also think the chromis would be good. If you introduced several at the same time, it is less likely you current fish will bother them.

I've had good luck with a threesome of Talbots. For damsels they are mild in general.

Have you thought about a group of Royal Grammas?
