Yet Another 5.5

Started up a AGA 5.5, 4 days ago. Back was painted black. Equipment consists of an AC 20 for water circulation in which carbon will also be ran. Lighting made up of 2 AZOO Galaxy Light II, each with a 13W PC bulb[Both running for 7 hours] and one, 1 watt Coralife Moonlight. No heater as I live in Arizona, so far temperature has been holding at 82-83 degrees. Put in enough sand to cover the bottom and about 6lbs of BR and 6lbs of LR for filtration. With weekly water changes of 1/2 a gallon and plenty of LR, parameters should be kept in-check. Livestock will not be added until after the second month. Which should consist of about 5 Sexy Shrimp, a Green Clown Goby, a small clean-up crew and possibly a Emerald or Porcelain Crab. Anyway...here are the pictures.

looks good, IMO it could use a little extra sand though, should look awsome w/ those sexy shrimp though

yep i second the above. Try going to walmart and getting one of those small 4" clip on fans for like 5 bucks or something. IMO 83 is on the high side just a little. That fan should bring it down to about 78 or so and it will probably sit there. And you'll need to get a heater pretty soon...our arizona fall/winter will be coming up, at which point you'll need your jackets for out 80 degree highs lol. But no really, i'd say get a heater, cuz it can get pretty cold here. My heaters run all winter, but then they stay off most of the summer.

Have an Ebo Jager sitting around from a 30g that was torn down before I moved, I'll toss that in when the time calls for it. As for temperature, it is in the acceptable range but I would like to hit a range of 80.5-81.5, so Ill probably go to Wally's World and look for that fan.
I've thought about adding sand but went against it. I want to be able to stir it up to keep detritus from accumalating in it and not get any on corals.

i'm thinking about setting up a pico myself. what sort of corals do you think you will get with that kind of lighting? do Azoo lights come with atinics?

Well, one fixture came with a 50/50 bulb and the other one came with a 10,000K bulb. You can tell in the FTS. Coralife sells the 50/50 and a 6700K spectrum bulb. Havent seen an actnic bulb though.

Yeah, goofed up with the AC20, should of went bigger.

Looks like you're off to a great start! I just started a new 7g rimless and did the same exact thing with the sand, just enough to cover up the glass bottom. Easier to stir up any detritus for lower-flow tanks imo.

My only suggestion would be to position the rocks farther away from the glass so it's easier to clean and scrape coralline off.

Suggestion taken, only problem is that both rocks are already placed as far back as possible. There taking up a lot of real-estate but there so nice I had to fit them in there.

You could always break up the right rock into smaller pieces. I had that problem too, too many large pieces of live rock such that I couldn't find a good fit for each piece without the tank looking crammed. By splitting the larger pieces into 2-3 smaller pieces, I had alot more options to explore in terms of rockscaping. In addition, I left some of the rubble from breaking up the rock in the tank so that I could use them to mount frags on later.

If you need a heater and more flow in your tank, you could get an AC70 or AC110 and modify it to house a refugium. In addition, you could also run a small heater and some carbon in the AC filter as well.
