My LFS got this in 2 weeks ago, Im full up on nems atm so Im not considering buying it, but would love to get some guesses on what it is.
It came in as a "brown carpet", first time I saw it, the day after it came in, it had moved from the substrate up to the tallest rock in the tank.
Today it had moved up the backwall of the display to a spot that its sitting in very strong flow. I think it has some verracue on the upper portion of the underside column(didnt get a good look).

Forgot to zoom, open about 4inches, with 3/4-1in tentacles.

Yeah? I suppose I could see that...the scale of it is throwing me off a bit, I'm not sure I've ever seen a gigantea that size that had such good tentacle extension.

I'm officially stumped.

Where did it come from? Might be an atlantic carpet/sun anemone (Stichodactyla helianthus). It looks like the one I used to have.

Its very pretty, much better than my pics in real life. I knew it wasnt Haddoni as soon as I saw it, but wasnt sure if it was Gigantea, Malu or what.
They got in 4 nems on that order, a typical bleached white with purple tips sebae, a real nice small green haddoni, a green that was sent as gigantea that looked iffy, and this brown that looked the best of the lot.

It is an Atlantic carpet, and I'm right this time:D . That is the nastiest creature I have ever kept.

Now that you mention it, I agree. I haven't seen one of these around for a while.

I remember a thread a while back, someone had in-progress pics of one splitting. Pretty cool stuff.

S. Helianthus.. and you should probably movit it away from the heater if you want to keep it long term..
