Yoccm's 300G DD In Wall Build

Glad to hear the crack was easy to spot and not hidden until water went in. Also good to hear that you will have a replacement so quickly. :)

Thanks Mike - I gotta tell ya I thought of you guys when I saw this crack. I hated to see what happened to you and it is my worst nightmare that it might happen to me. My wife has already warned me that if I put 300 gallons of saltwater on her newly finished basement me and my livestock will need to find a new home. :love1:

She's just kidding but seriously I hated to see what happened to you guys. I have to admit I was a bit nervous about Marineland after reading your thread but loved the dimensions and went for it. I will definitely look the new tank over closely and do a leak test as soon as possible!!!

That stinks about the crack but lucky you caught it before dragging that monster down stairs. I know mine was around 400 lbs dry sucker was heeeeeavy!

Yeah - my LFS guy said it was over 400#s dry. Our basement has garden view windows that are 42 x 32 so we were planning on bringing it straight thru the window that is right in the spot it will end up. This will be much easier than making the tight 90 degree turn I have half way down my basement stairs. The landing is only 42x42 - I'm not even sure it would make the turn. We will definitely be going thru the window!!

Im glad it was found too. I would have been bad to get it in the basement and see it. That would have been bad on our backs.:spin2:

Yeah - I think it will be a work out to get it in there ... Can't imagine having to turn around and pull it back out again. 2nd time will be a charm right?

You have a great equipment list,so I'm sure it'll be a great set up for you. I was the guy with the black tee by the way.

Thanks Bob - yeah I figured it was you when I saw the 250 DD on your post. Thanks for the well wishes. I am still wrestling with the lighting like we talked about today. Pretty committed to the rest of the list but having a hard time swallowing the $3,200 price tag on the LEDs. I have some time to decide I guess - I'm in deep already what's $1,700 more give or take right? :eek2:

In for a penny, in for a pound.

I just wish the 3,000 pounds of stuff I'm putting in this tank only cost 3,000 pennies. Oh well, I knew the cost of this hobby before I got into it. And it is a hobby not an addiction .... That's my story and I'm sticking with it!!!

Nice build, following along.

Thanks Plato - question for you .... I see you are using 2 MP 60s and 2 40s on your 275G. Were the 60s not enough flow on their own? I was hoping to not have to add 40s - just use 2 60s. Also, how do you have them all placed in the tank and what settings do you use on them?

Thanks, Chris

I got so distracted by the cracked tank that I didn't take the chance to take some measurements while it was here. I'm gonna head over to the LFS today with my tape measure.

I want to confirm the outside frame measurements and also want to make a template of the location of the 4 corner holes so the carpenter has all the info to build the stand next week without having the tank on site. I am also going to measure the inside edge dimensions on the top frame cross bracing so I can go ahead and start building screen frames.

Itching to make some progress!!!

So I started playing with the aquascaping today. I got 3 acrylic sheets measuring 24"x24"x1/2" and also got several 4 foot lengths of 3/8" and 1/4" nylon rod and nylon hex nuts and washer.

Hard to see the acrylic sheets because the brown paper is still on it but I used masonry bits to drill holes thru the rock and then tapped holes in the sheet to screw the rod directly into the acrylic. Here's how it turned out.

Once I put it all together it was solid as a rock - no cement, no epoxy, no glue. Doesn't even wiggle!!!!:inlove::inlove::inlove:

Absolutely LOVE how solid this feels and I can pull the rock off to cook it and leave the rods attached to the acrylic and slide it right back on and screw it down in no time flat. And I do plan on cutting the rod off right at the hex nut just before it goes in the tank.

It was due to the what the live rock is stacked because the thank is 3' high and 2' wide the 2 x 60's had lost of flow on top but not behind the rock and not enough on the bottom. The addition of the two 40 help get good water flow through the rock to stir up everything. The 60's are one the ends centered near the top and the 40's are on the back near the top. Pumps are at 100% the right side 60 is the master and the left side slave is in orange mode the two back 40's are turquoise mode. I use the EcoSmart mode but will switch from NTM or TSM from time to time.

Thanks for the info. That makes alot of sense. I am definitely going to start with two 60s on the sides and see how the rockwork effects flow and go from there. Hoping to not need to add any 40s but probably will in the long run.

Got my RODI system from Bulk Reef - I went with the 75 GPD Six Stage system and also added the 150GPD add on. Figured it would significantly reduce waste water.

Dude I don't care what anybody says that rock work is kick booty!!!!! I wish I could do that but I am not sure I am capable of something like that just yet. I have to get into things a little deeper. WELL DONE MAN!!!
