Yoccm's 300G DD In Wall Build

Well some good news ....

Dosed 1 liter of lanthanum mix again and PO4 is now down to .18

Also gate valves came in so worked on plumbing tonight.

The bad news .....

My bulkheads are leaking :headwally:

Anyone have any suggestions.

Where did you get the gate valves? I've been seeing a lot of schedule 80 but not regular pvc size. On a personal note, new carpet next week then the stand and 300 finally come in from the garage.

While many people say you don't need or shouldn't need to do this, i put gaskets on both sides and put silicone grease or vaseline on the surface of the glass where the bulkhead will be.

Steve

don't use vaseline, it is petrolium based, and will break down the gasket over time.

Great to hear you are making progress! I am using Sch 80 gate and true union ball valves for all my plumbing. It fits fine with Sch 40 pipe. The difference in thickness is on the outside of the valve. The I.D. Is the same as Sch 40.

I ordered mine online - most vendors on this site carry them.

What about using silicone? I know that could be a bit permanent but seems like I could cut it away if I ever needed to remove the fitting.

Not sure if that is a good idea or not. Anyone have problems with the bulkheads supplied by Marineland with the tank?

I would use the silicone grease first. check for anything that could be causing the leak. Grains of sand or dirt. I had an issue with a bulkhead and not matter how i adjusted it i just couldnt get the drip to stop. i put the silicone grease on it and the leak was gone. That was a year ago and I've been drip-less since.

O.K. I just did a quick google search and looks like you can get it at the major big box places. How did you ensure it was reef safe?

I found out about it from other members on here. I am pretty sure the packaging says non toxic as well.

Thanks for all the help!! I just did some more searching and look like it is in the plumbing dept. and i want the stuff labeled drinking water safe. I will pick some up tomorrow and give it a shot. Thanks again for all the advice. Hopefully I can get this plumbing stuff wrapped up and move on to more fun things!

Chris,

I can mail you some silicone grease in a small container. You only need a very small amount of it, and I have a bunch...

The good news .... silicone grease works like a charm!!!!!! NO MORE LEAKS :celeb2::beer::celeb2:

Let the plumbing begin!!!!

I am officially in plumbing purgatory!!! :furious::headwalls:

I have finished the drain plumbing and have started on the return pipes. Sooooo tired of the smell of PVC glue. I think I have definitely set my I.Q. back a few points today. :hmm3::hmm3::hmm3:

For valves, this is true; for pipe, it is the opposite. Higher schedule pipe has less available ID.

Great news!! We actually have a leaky b/h on our refugium. We'll throw some silicone grease on there tonight.
