Yeah - I was really pleased with how the PO4 dropped!!!

Here are some FTS after finishing plumbing and putting in sand. The water is still a bit cloudy when I took these but has cleared up nicely since then.

Great rockwork. I love tanks where there's a lot of sand bottom visible, they look very clean. Good luck with the tank!

Chris,

I ended up getting the exact same tank. I know it might be too late, but for my overflows I ran the 1.5" return up and over one side, then into a T with 1" adaptors in the ends. So now I have 2 1" lines that then go to 90's and then have flow accelerators attached to the ends.

I actually used the same setup that Marc Levenson used on his tank. I was picking up a sump from him a few weeks ago and saw his setup and loved it. Very clean looking. If your interested in pics and the link, shoot me an email at mark.sharp@dey.com

Thanks smoq - that was one of the big attractions for me with the 6x3 foot tank. I really like the open sand areas too.

Looks really good Chris, love the rock work. What should we expect to see fish wise in this tanks future? Whats your #1 gotta have?

Chris,
I may have missed it in an earlier thread but what's your live stock plan?

I haven't posted anything yet on my livestock plan but ..... I plan on a mixed reef balanced between SPS and LPS with some zoas and sorties mixed in here and there.

As for fish, I already have a pair of Ocillaris Clowns in the QT tank. I also plan on a variety of Tangs, some anthias, gobies and wrasses also coral beauty.

As to favorite ... Coral beauty has always been one of them but if I muster the courage to try them I would love to get a pair of leopard wrasses!!

cant remember did you do and overflow mods
aquascap look relly good hope everything is good from hear on out.

Thanks Crazyfish - I have not done any mods to overflowS yet but think I will need to. As is the water level gets up on the cross braces and the waterfall effect in the overflow is pretty strong. I pulled them off completely today and it was much better. Unfortunately that won't work with livestock in the tank. I think I might remove every other tooth with a dremel and see it that works.

You're squad aping is brilliant, I love all the plateaus you've arranged. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Nana - I got my rock from BRS ... The shelf rock they have is awesome!! So far I am pleased with the rockscape but may be tweaking it here and there.

Thanks masharp - I would be interested in how you set up your overflows. I will email you.

I have a question for everyone - my return pump uses 1.5" pipe for the return. I am plumbing up and over the back of the tank. I was originally thinking of using loc-line for the output in the display but noticed it only comes in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 2.5 size.

I am not sure I want to restrict from 1.5 all the way down to 3/4. I think I am going to have the returns come up both sides as well as in the middle of the tank so 3 output sources into the display.

Any suggestions or examples of what you have done with returns would be helpful.

Thanks

So what did you end up doing? It is kind of hard to see in the pics.

in case you missed my reply on my thread...

my reflectors are about 10.5" from the surface. it may be a bit high, but my research has shown with those reflectors i should still be getting plenty of light. plus it keeps the heat further away. it also keeps the water splash to a minimum. the tank seems to have great coverage, in pics you can see darker spots where the braces are but it's not that noticable in person.

that plumbing is a work of art. and the aquascaping turned out great!

Thanks Launchnukes! Means a lot coming from you. I've followed your build from the start and found it very helpful to me along the way.

Also, thanks for the info on your lighting ... Again very helpful.

My challenge is that my ceiling height is limited by heat ducts that are mounted on the floor joists which only leaves me about 20" from water to ceiling.

I have been seriously considering the Lumenbrite all in one fixture:

http://coralvue.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/blackbottomview_lbfixture.jpg

It is 12" tall which worries me that it won't leave me enough room to get it high enough off the water. It uses 3 of the mini wide pendants in the fixture.

If I built my own system and used Lumenmax elite reflectors I would get more wiggle room but not sure I am comfortable with building a DIY fixture.

Not sure what to do :hmm3:

So what did you end up doing? It is kind of hard to see in the pics.

I ended up reducing the 1.5" down to 1" after the shut off valve the when I went over the top of the tank I used a reducer to godown to 3/4" where the loc line screwed in. I went with 3 returns over the top, I also have one of the 1/2" manifolds open full on my carbon reactor and the 1" Recirc line at the end of the manifold wide open. Seems like good flow in the tank and the sump. Pretty happy with everything so far.
