It's actually a bit of flooded meadow, right next to the Merced river. Right now the river is rippin' but this bit was as smooth as glass.

Wow....speechless. great shot. Yosemite is still the most beautiful place I've ever been. Do you live near there? I'd be there every weekend if I lived nearby.

Thanks

wow that is an awesome shot. what roads are open up there right now?

The same roads that are always open this time of year. ;)

The valley loop is open all year. Every fall, the Tioga road and the Glacier point road are closed due to snow. They typically reopen in late May (they work really hard to get them open for Memorial day).

I don't live there but I am within a few hours. Between workshops and personal visits I average about 45 days in the park each year.

Really nice captures Doug. Thanks for sharing!

How crowded is Yosemite during Memorial day? I've been thinking about going but the price of hotels there scare me a bit. Any suggestions on where to stay?

 - That is, generally speaking, the busiest day of the entire year in the park. I'd rather stick forks in my eyes than go that weekend.

If you haven't booked already, you might be out of luck. Yosemite View Lodge and Cedar Lodge are out of the park alternatives as is the Yosemite Bug. The Bug is a great, kinda funky place, with great food but it's 45 minutes from the park.

Just as an FYI, I was there again this morning. The place where I stood to take that first shot is now under 2 feet of water. The falls are booming.
