You were a stupid newbie too!

Another thing people need to be aware of. Some people are just a matter of fact people. That isn't always bashing and just doesn't always come across well.

Yeah, I agree...it takes all sorts of fancy punctuation and smilies to get your tone across correctly...and even then sometimes it does work  (or wait, should I use a :rolleye1: )

I am a newbie and most of my posts probably seem stupid, at least to me they do. But searching google can give you 10 different types of advice on one thing. One site may say a coral or fish is easy , another lists it as moderate and yet another will say difficult . I have several books I go by but people with personal experience are PRICELESS ! I'd rather ask the dumb question and have someone with first hand experience answer me then take the advice of some sites that are misleading.

You really have to weigh the different opinions and decide on how they proceed with their tanks. In reality, there are different ways to do things. I believe there is no dumb question, unfortunately the same cannot be said for answers. There are a lot more good patient people here than bad ones IMO anyway. Sometimes the bad ones find you first and it's hard to get past that.

I think I first posted on reefs.org or aqualink.com or something... I've been on this board for a while now and probably on the reefs for longer. I dont post much as I find it hard to be construtive all the time. That and my "wild" views tend to make me a target...

I try to be careful in what I say as not to offend any body. Personally I think this is a great forum. I have not been bashed or bashed any person. I haven't seen any body get bashed myself. If I do get bashed on any forum, I take it with a grain of salt. Seeing the same topic over and over is not neccesarly a bad thing. Some times the poster may want some personalized attention. Not all the time but sometimes it happens. JMO

I don't know what to say. I bought three books before I even considered getting into this hobby, even after the 'expert' at my LFS told me how easy it would be to set up a 55 gallon tank as saltwater. It was a GREAT starting point.

Experience aside, you should know how to get valid information. Businesses don't invest in consumer protection. There is a difference between a post that starts off "I'm considering three yellow tangs for my 55" and "I just bought three yellow tangs, now what do I do?"

My first post was quiet possible in the most off topic, random, longest running spam thread not in the lounge. I mean we got a thread split in a spam thread

Most people post the same thing, because the search engine and this site are slow more often than not, even if you are a member.
Its down now in fact LOL.

for $24 a year, I signed up membership. It's a good site, and it's worth $2 per month to be able to search for something when I want to.
How much is your frustration worth? go ahead, support RC.
