Young love, first nest

Awwwww, it's just so darned cute In December of '04 David Lockwood gave me some hybrid oc/ perc larvae from his split pair. I had one survive and on Jan 1st of this year I paired it up with a larger ocellaris, can't remember where I got that one. anyway yesterday (4+ months later) they laid their first nest, a whopping 20 eggs from what I can see. I guess they haven't quite got the knack of it yet  That's OK, they will learn and I'm just happy to have them spawning.

So if the male is 50/50 perc/ oc, the fry are going to be 1/4 perc? Would you call them a "hybrid"?

David, cool.

You seem to get them to spawn quickly. Do you feed anything special, or just a varied diet.

Varied diet, all live, fresh or frozen. Plus I have magic tanks. Basically toss in two fish and they pair & mate :D

david do you have a pic of this hybrid fish, i would love to see the colour compared to the ocellaris you have.

Thanks

Christian

This is from like 6 months ago, it basically looks like any other oc but has nice wide white bars. The pic is a little misleading, it's the angle that makes them look so big. The fish is in the center of the pic as if you couldn't figure that out

14 days and the second nest is here :D This one actually looks like a real nest, a few hundred anyway. I may pull it :smokin:

David should open a fish fertility clinic...ha can make two males lay viable eggs.

no kidding!!!

a few hundred anyway. I may pull it
<chanting>PULL IT!!! PULL IT!!!</chanting>

David,

Some cool little fishes there.

OK am curious, what is that thing, sticking into the water on the top right of that tank? If it is an inlet, what is the cover on it?

Thanks

Steve

I didn't even notice that in the pic  It's just a "U" tube connecting another tank, I don't remember why. I might have had larvae next door and was using the growout tank as an overflow, or sometimes I do that to acclimate fry from larval SG to system water. Or maybe water was going from that tank into another, why do you have to ask such complicated questions  :D

Daivd,

Sorry it is early here at the moment and I thought it was a good idea to have some kind of filter on the pipe what ever it was for.

Sorry to make those brain cells work. :D :eek2:
