your tanks please

Not tempered, 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch. Eurobraced.
I prefer the structural bottom, where the side pieces rest on the bottom. Lots of tanks are built with floating bottom, side pieces are on the outside of the bottom glass.

Just a thought...I would visit a few larger tanks and check out their plumbing and get the theory behind them. Then decide what you want to do.

I made the switch from halides to T5's and love the difference in color and temp (I also dropped in watt usage with the switch).

I keep an even mix from SPS to zoas and softies.

BTW, john at FAOIS made a good point to me a few months back when he told me you can get shimmer lines by using any point source illumination even as simple as mounting a small incandescent bulb over the tank. I tried it just to see and it worked. I didnt leave it up becuase I dont need thick shimmer lines, but it did work.

Halides are great, dont get me wrong. I used them for years, but it's all personal preference as stated before.

Reef what stops of the bubbles from making it back into the return area from the refugium area? I just read a ton of boards on the design and was curious how I missed this part? Does the 90degree stop the bubbles? or are you dropping into rocks and such which will break them up.

Thanks, sorry for the sidetrack.

Here's a simple flow through the refugium that I'm making now for my 65G:

EDIT-----Never mind just read it alittle better, I would think if ya angle a baffle it would just run down it easier......

I'll chime in here. On this design, the flow into the fuge is about 20% of total, so its slower. Most bubbles travel over to the input area. Those that make it into the fuge usually disperse before making it into the return area, due to the slow movement of the water from the fuge.

Not to mention using an incandescent in a refugium grows macro like cazy! Much better than a T5, VO, or Mh or actinics.
