Your thoughts on aquascaping

Hi all, I just changed my scape past couple months from a two island setup to a wall type scape, and TBH I liked the two islands better as far as the way it looks, but practically, the wall type seems better (more flow, more spots for coral, etc.). I really only moved 2 rocks to change the scape, but not actually sure what I did, so changing it back wouldn't be easy methinks. I guess what I'm really asking is 1) what is everyones favorite type of scape and 2) what is the most practical scape? (not taking aesthetics into account)

First pic was how it was before, second is now, with the 2 moved rocks highlighted. Sorry about the algae haven't had a whole lot of time to clean it.

I like the 2-3 island theme that is very popular. The second pic almost looks like the way we used to do it... all rock along the back wall.

I vote for number 1 too, but they are both attractive. The secret is to vary the height and you have done that. Good job!

I vote #1 but like other have said, both are nice. Go with the one that makes you happy.

I think #1 looks great, and I don't think it's any less practical. My experience has been that more rocks means more dead spots with limited flow, which can be a long term problem. I think open 'scapes like your first one can work better in the long run, flow wise.

Number 1 was extremely natural looking. It had a beautiful slope...yet a very open feel.

Number 2 looks somewhat compacted...very unnatural.

It's your tank, It's all in what appeals to you. But I really like the look of the first pic. I think you may end up with dead spots in flow on the 2nd.

I like the "island" approach as well. That is what I did with mine, and then added a rock bridge between island 1 and 2.

I like both, but I think I like #1 the best. IMO it looks a little more natural. Go with what you like though, you are the one that sees it everyday. Which ever way I think it looks nice
