as a few of you might now I am thinking about setting up a SH Marco tank some time next year. hopefully sooner rather that later :)

so my next question is:
with tank raise SH how do you think they will fair with natural sea water?
I use NSW in all my tanks and have even when I live in Santa Barbra Ca and had/have good results. now that I live in Hawaii I still used NSW with great success.

I am wondering about adding bacteria that they are not used to/raised with there for having no immunity to...

thoughts?
anyone with experience with this?

Collect at high tide and get as close to the ocean as you can and you should be fine. Some folks filter and treat the water. Some of the fish farms in Hawaii use NSW but they draw from down deep.

I have two options here 1 from the aquarium they will provide hobbyist with NSW the same they use in there system. it is filter though a sand filter i believe and is collected or piped in. a few of the hobbyist I have found have said that there is a build up of sh#t in the pipe some say it's all myth.

the other option is, and is what I do on my current 55, is go to a rocky cliff/ shore away from beaches and fill 5 gallon buckets. I do 15-20% water change 2x a month.

any other thoughts?
I wounder if Dan at seahorse uses NSW? maybe that the dan from the above post??

Unless you are willing to filter or treat the water, I would get it from the aquarium. All pipes have a build up inside them including the pipes in your home. If water quality was an issue, the aquarium would address it.

Yes it is me. We do use NSW. We started this year after some research. Most of the fish farms, bait shops, many lfs and some labs use NSW here. Finding info on how to manage it is difficult. I asked around and paid particular attention to the ones breeding difficult or sensitive specimens and labs. It has been working very well for us.

ah good to know you do use NSW I am going to order a pair of SH in the next few months and got to thinking that NSW would be to much for the little guys.
