Yukonblizzard's Shark and Ray Reef Lagoon

I have a 30 mill liner and that is pretty tough, so a 40 mill isnt going to be affected by mangrove roots. I've seen rockwork sitting on those 40 mill pond liners and held up just as you know no sharps and good job on the lagoon. You will have fun with those rays and i believe they do good in captivity.

Thanks Saltyguy!:) I was hoping you would post on here, I love your lagoon. Hows it coming anyway?

Got all the plumbing done, I will post pictures tomorrow

UPDATE-

I got lots of things done yesterday.

Made the skimmer pump box...

The box is attached to the shelf, and the pump sits on the inside. The bottom will have rubber to soften the vibrations. I did not want to have the pump inside the water, but I couldnt because it has to be below water level.

Finished the plumbing in the refugium and sump....

Now the only thing left to do is remove the scratches from the viewing panel.

AWESOME.....JUST AWESOME....

Great job on this so far. I am sooooo jealous, I showed your build to the wife, and she thought it was great to... that is huge for her, its usually "just another fish thing on that website you spend so much time on". LOL

Really a great job and can't wait to see more pics

 I know what you mean!

Hello Yukonblizzard,

well the 660g tank is of an oval layout with a lenght of 6.5 feet and a biggest width of 5 feet and is 3 feet high.

well your tank then is 5 times the lenght of a shark - and even if they are lazy thats not much.

A friend of mine has a similar tank size and I never would consider to put even smaller sharks in there. I have also seen small examples of your size swimming in this tank size and it was not an exciting picture.
Thats my opinion.

regards

Markus

Hello,

oh sorry;

I wrote it is my personal view...

I know a guy having a 1100g tank keeping rays and sharks, that may be a starting size...
The Austrian legislation even sees a minimum of 1300g for any shark up to 3 feet and above 50 square feet for rays to be kept.

regards

Markus

Dont worry about it Markus, I know what you mean.:) I would have loved to get a bigger tank, but space/money constraints did not allow this. I think I am still going to attempt at keeping the smaller/lazier sharks and rays though.

2nd the notion BUZZKILL..down the road he needs a bigger tank but 600 gal. for small sized rays and sharks is not terrible..Ive had a couple of bullseye rays and they usually come in really small from wholesalers..3-5"..its not like he's putting a smooth hound or blacktip in there dude..picking way inactive sharks is not the same..I've heard of way worse from LFS selling leopard sharks to people with 180's just to get the sale.
I have mature vlamingis in a 450gal and they have more than enough room!!
(btw the 450 is 12'double bow front)
$.02

I can't wait..... I have shown this to several people outside the hobby, and they are all impressed. Some have even signed on to RC just to see pics
