Zanzibar Reefs (East Africa)

I studied abroad in Tanzania for 6 months during the Fall semester of 2007. I had the opportunity to do snorkeling off the coast of Zanzibar and bought a waterproof disposable camera to get a few shots in. These are not the best quality, but they remind me of the amazing experience that I had. Enjoy!

The caribbean is covered with urchins like that as well. It is eerie sometimes seeing the everywhere like that. Glad I have hard soled dive boots.

I disagree. Do a little research on the massive die off of the diadema species in the northern Caribbean, esp the south Florida area in the 70's/80's and the correlating decline of the local reefs. Also read up on Martin Moe and his work / foundation and you will see what myself and hurricaneredbone are referring to.

I've spent considerable time both before and after the massive diadema off in the Caribbean. While there has indeed been some significant recovery (compared to the near extinction), the diadema have not nearly recovered to what they were before the wipe out.
