Zapping Xenia

I've tried using a siringe full of concentrated calcium like a paste and it wounds some, kills some but for the most part the sh*t just keeps bouncing back from the dead. Any suggestions on exterminating this stuff?

There are many ways of getting rid of it. Personally, I love mine, but when I have to remove the ones that are spreading in areas I don't want them to, I just cut them close to the base, wait a few minutes for the leftover to retract and clump up a bit, and use fine tweezers to pry it off the rock. No more xenia! Takes a bit of patience, but at least no xenia will grow back. This is easier if you can take the rock out.

Lets Go Caps!!!

the kalk paste helps but even then they have come back, the only guarantee is to dig out the rock where the xenia was. good luck i spend an hour or two each week digging out xenias in my 1200 gal tank, I sometimes sell my rock covered with xenias to my local shop they love to have them and i get extra rock in return. now that rteally gets rid of it.

When I dabbled in the crabgrass of the sea experiment in my tank, I finally ended up cutting it short as I could, then using a piece of 1/2 tube, flushed the area with boiling hot tank water very carefully for a few seconds where the foot was... it never came back after that. :p

i wish i had your problem,

what are your parameters? im having problems growing xenia...

Params are "perfect" heh. I run ZEO but still the stuff manages to wander from the main colony. Aswell as they spawn pods that start new colonies inside the tank in other areas.

Have you tried giving it to a LFS for trade credit? Apparently a lot of them will go for that. Might be a better budgetary option than just killing and tossing it.

If I had a frag tank I might do that.

ive got a coral beauty and a flame im my system who like to munch on my xenia every now and then. if i notice the xenia growing out of control, i just cut down to one feeding for a couple days and they remove some xenia for me. it eventually grows back but keeps it from spreading too far.
