Great Pics Kim. My black/white Percs are acting really odd today. My female was trying to hide most of the day and did not really want anything to eat at all. I may start having a lot more questions. I have read my Clownfishes book, but sometimes it's nice have someone you can ask direct questions. Although your thread is very, very informative. My Picasso's from Dori's Reef arrived 9 days ago and they are eating like little pigs. I intend on giving their babies a try to, but that will be at least a year away. It sounds like you got adult Pico's, do you mind me asking where you got them? Thanks again for the great thread. J

Congrats on getting your picassos. I'm trying to get my hands on a young snowcasso to potentially pair with Spot once he's around 6 months old.
Adult Pico's? What are those?
And my pairs are from a breeder in San Antonio who decided to sell a few of his breeding and bonded pairs. I can give you his info if you're interested, just shoot me a PM!

Mine hatched this weekend, but as of today they all died. Not exactly sure what went wrong but the only thing I can figure happened was some bad kind of bacteria hitched a ride on a chunk of LR I put in the hatching tank (as per the advice of another breeder). But mom fish looks like she's going to lay eggs this evening (a week early!), so maybe I'll have another go at it and I'll leave out the LR this time.
Hopefully I'll have my second pair by the end of the week! Fingers crossed....

You're assuming that they will spawn! There are many factors that go into whether or not two clowns will form a true bonded pair and conditions must be right for spawning to take place. Generally speaking, the female will need to be around 2 or 3 years old. The male can be anywhere bigger than 6". There is no set time it takes for a pair to become bonded, so you just have to observe their behavior and read up on pairing clownfish. If they've only been together for 4 months, I'd say you have a while to wait until you see eggs, but I'm no expert.

WOW!!!!! That's too cool. Those babies are just about 1 month old right? I've been keeping up with your thread and I must say your pics are fantastic. Also your success with this first hatch is encouraging to people like me who hope we will someday have a handfull of baby clownfish!!! If you don't mind 1 question. How did you set up the lighting for your fry tank? Photoperiod, intensity and placement would all be very helpfull.

I'm actually using a stand lamp for the fry tank right now. The bulb is a 3-way incandescent bulb. The first few days I keep it on the lowest setting then step it up after they get a little bigger. I keep it on from 8am to 11pm, around 7 or 8 inches from the top of the tank.

Well, we hatched the night of the 18th, about 100 I would guess. Lost a few each night until last night, when I lost about 25 . :worried: Not sure why, but I hope we're over the losses. This is day 4 and I've been cleaning tank bottom every day, feeding 2-3 times a day, salinity gradually dropped to .020 (per Wilkerson). Keeping my fingers crossed for the next few days.

Which set up would you like a pic of?
The day of the hatch I'll do a water change on the parent tank, around 4 gallons, and use that old water for the hatching tank. That evening I'll pull the pot with eggs and put them in the hatching tank with the airstone bubbling on the eggs. Hope that answers your question.

Black craft paper covers the sides, white paper underneath, heater, airstone, thermometer, ammonia alert badge will be in there once there is water, and the mag cleaner to keep front glass clean and act as a gauge for topping up water. And light from above of course. Easy greasy!

I haven't used a sponge filter yet. I'm still using just an airstone in the juvie tank but as soon as a new impeller arrives I'll throw a hob filter on that tank and might do away with the airstone if I can. According to the reading and other breeders, you can put a sponge filter in the tank as soon as they go through meta phase!
