Zebra eel not eating

Looking for suggestions. Ive had a couple snowflakes. The old one and one i currently have started eating day after introduction to tank. Got a zebra eel probably a week and a half ago. Ive tried krill, silversides. He hangs out under a rock and sticks his head out 24/7. When i try to feed himx he moves away from the food. Is it typical of these eels to go on a feeding strike when introduced to new tank?

Quite typical for a new eel, they can go several weeks without eating. I wouldn't worry too much until about 4 weeks.

In the meantime keep trying to feed, perhaps a small silverside on a stick mimicking a wiggling action to get it to feed. Also try to get a longer stick as your hand can scare it.

Sorry, something went wrong, here is what I was trying to post:
Go to the grocery store & pick up some raw shrimp, go to HD & pick up a $5.00 vertical blind closer. It has a nice blunt hook to stick food on. Cut the shrimp into what you think are bite sized pieces.. thaw shrimp as needed & stick it right in front of the eels lair.

SCREW SILVERSIDES!!!

Raw shrimp certainly works well too but be careful as eels do love it to the point they at times only will eat the shrimp. Those shrimp are like candy, yes it will eat them but a diet of only shrimp is very bad for them. I've read and observed premature deaths of zebras eating the shrimp as it's primary food.

The zebra eel eats crustacions - so shrimp, small crabs, etc. Although you may eventually get it to eat small fish or clams, those are not its natural prey and not necessary. Silversides, particularly, can contain high levels of bacteria and are not recommended. I feed mine thawed, laterally sliced raw shrimp (when I first got it, he would only eat cooked shrimp - go figure) My last eel was with me for over a decade eating only shrimp - premature death, poppycock!

Maybe try some live fiddler crabs from the FW section of the LFS. That got my zebra going years ago. From then on it would eat raw shrimp, squid, ect.
