Zegg's 115g Build/Log

Well guess its time to start throwing up one of my builds since I just started on this one.

First I have a 90g LPS/softie tank for years which started out as a 55g then up to 75g to its present 90g.

I am now Setting up my 115g Uniaqurium(got a to good to be true deal on it) that I drilled for an overflow. Still can utilize all compartments in the back if I want to. But all equipment, etc are going into the sump.

Game Plan - Mixed Reef with some SPS and clams and he possiblilty going SPS dominated in future.

-Using an Old ebay 260w PC fixture - Getting a Hamilton Belize 72" 3x250w MH with 2x80 T5HO with moon lighting.http://www.hamiltontechnology.com/shop/index.php?task=show&cat=New+Products

-Currently using a Rio3100 as return will be using a Rio32HF

-Using a AquaC EV 180 Protein Skimmer(borrowing from my 90gallon until I get another one. Should be fine as us a 75g tank for my fuge on that one.

-Using 1 Korlia 4 and 2 Korlia 3's Prolly swith out the 4 for 2 more 3's

Adding to system once the money starts flaling off the tree
-RKE
-RX-1 from AquaC once i get tired of dosing 2-part
-Still need to add a fuge
-2 media reactors prolly from BFS inline media reactors
-And im sure ill find a few other things like chiller.

So here it is after about 3 weeks ior so

Dimensions are 72" x 18" x 20"
Still working on my aquascaping as Im never done doing that EVER.

the Zoas, Candycane, and browned out GSP that all made it through the cycling process. These corals are tough but wouldnt have imagined. Ive pretty much seen the diatom bloom come and just starting to go away.

Livestock:
All came from my aquapod which had to be taken down to make room and then my holding container started leaking thus why they all ended up in my 115 before it was done cycling. Excpet the Fish which i had none.

- Yellow Sleeper Head Goby which finds his way through 4 compartments and overflow drain into the sump a few times already. (which once I find him again hes going back)

-Bullet or Banded Goby - I will be getting my own pic up soon once lights are back on.

-Then some random Zoas and Plays

I know what you mean with the aquascaping! Keep us updated on the 115!

The 90g looks great btw!

thanks, youll have to ignore the damsles as they are no longer in the DT ;) They have been the tank for 2 years or so and just kept forgetting they were in there until I added another fish. then they would show there true colors

Plan on it, as ill had to modify/rebuild the stand. Tomrorow modifing the overflow teeth as it can barely handle a rio2100 let alone the 3100 its running now and upgrading to a 32HF. Also sump is just a approx 20g rubbermaid contain and hard to get at anything as my stand is very short, 25".

I know about short stands, me too.
Nice setup so far, need more pics please.

Should be some "deals" at MAX this weekend maybe, will see.

Biggest problem that im having with the aquascaping is that on the ends the tank is 18" wide and only 14 inches in the middle(which extends about 4 feet across the middle.

Yeah plan on it, just wanted to get it started or I was never going to do it ;)

Goin to MAX as well looking for the "deals" or anything I like anyways.

Okay here are some pics of my actual setup as is 3/31/09

Heres MY loan goby

Going to be changing a few things around in the next coming week and probably most of the changes will take place in the next week os so. I know the stand is not finished and obviously over time would start warping etc. This is only a temp stand and will be contructing my own. I might just copy the stand I made for my 90gallon. Allows me to easily fit a 75g tank uderthere and be able to remove it if need be. Heres the stand I made for my 90gallon

Temp Stand which I need to change out as it really 2 36" stands including the top. Which even though theres 1/2" of foam its not sitting level where each stand meets. Worked great on concrete and would perfectly line up there but not on carpet.

The Temp Stand

It slides open to reveal the overcrowded sump.

My dual 1" returns. I need to remove them to flip the 90 degree elbow down to quite down the system. I might add a 3rd drain as a fail safe. I plan on adding screens as well.
Overflowstandpipes.jpg

My returns are currently 2 3/4" near the corners just pointed straight down... adding loc line and will be driling anti-siphon hole.
Also once I get the plumbing parts and hook up the original UNI return which has holes drilled all along the back behind the rock structure.

Uni Return Plumbed so I can easily excess it when im ready to add it to system plumbing.

Also need to fix my LEDs in my PC fixture. Dont really know if I want to waste my time on them as I am getting a 3*250w MH fixture that already has LED. But this is what my dog did to it while I was moving to the new place.

I reccomend NEVER using these powerstrips as they are cheap peices of junk and have almost started a fire in the past with them. That will be switched out today and adding some times for the lights.

Thats it for now until I start pulling out some of these things that need work and will post update on how they went and if I remember to take a few shots inbetween.

Test Results - Beofre doing my water change which will be doing 10g a week and once I get my sump and fuge which will add about 60 gallons to system will start changing 15 or so gallons a week.

-Temp 77
-Salinty 1.025
-Ammonia 0
-Nitrite 0
-Nitrate <5
-Phosphate .25 (rock wasnt fully cured was over .75 in the beginning) but was doing 10-20 gallon water changes every 3 to 4 days as I ended up having inhabitants while cycling. Only lost some Pink Xenia which my 90g has quite an overgrowth of it so not concerned that I lost those.

-dKh 8
-Calcium 450
-Magnesium 1150 (salt mix runs a tad low are 1100) Will be dosing mag to bring up to 1300

sweet goby btw!

I call him the lone gobie, only becuase he WAS "paired" with another banded goby in a 20g tank for a little over a week and doing very well. By the time I got around to making my decicion on getting the pair(making sure they wernt beating eachother up) they sold 1 of them.

Moved some rocks around, still needs some tweaking.
Left Side I plan on using more of a growout/frag rack and will be raising it(pillar) to provide shaded area as well for light sensitive corals. Also completed cutting teeth, broke one tooth so theres a rather large opening. Atleast theres 4 sides to it so i can try it again. Ill get pics next time. Removed the Korlia 4 as it was blowing to much sand around.

Might need to get some other rock(hand picked this time), these were not hand picked but rather ordered 88lb medium size box.
