im using prodibio products now with good results, would like to try different method possibly better, both will need reactor not sure which will give better results ,im familiar with all three systems, ready to switch, thanks

Zeovit is alot more work/riskier / requires good eyes. but its the complete form of carbon dosing.

other types just do one part, Zeovit does it all. start to finish. N and P ...

I use pellets, and like many pellet users I'm still "working out the kinks" in the methodolgy. Zeo is a more tried and true, albeit more complicated.

pellets just seem like another gimmick, why did we get rid of bio balls, trickle filters, cant they grow the same bacteria?,they became nirate factories, wont the pellet reactor do the same? lol

I would say ZeoStart vs BioPellets, and I'd rather the second one.

Zeovit includes a lot of products and recipes useful to achieve better results, specially more colorful and thinner tissues. Zeo goes much further, but Biopellets are easier and safer.

Biopellets are still in the testing phase IMO, zeovit is tried and tested and has tons of support in the zeovit forums.

I've been using biopellets (ecobak) for about 5 months now. I feel that if you gradually ease into it, you'll end up with much better results. It is not the magic bullet that will rid you of all your problems. Many switch to biopellets and expect immediate results. They fail to realize that it takes several weeks for the bacteria to adjust and multiply to adequate levels for your tank.

I use biopellets in conjunction with microbacter7 and i feel like i've received very good results. Here is a picture of my bluebottle brush. In my old tanks, i have was never able to achieve colors like this. It could be attributed to other factors, but i do feel the use of biopellets makes a difference.

Just to be clear I wasn't stating that biopellets did not work, I simply feel that we are still learning the best methods on how to use them.

we can grow the same bacteria on bio balls,or on any thing else in a filter compartment, but we abandoned them for becomming nitrate factories, why do these consume nitrate, trickle filters produced it ?cant we use bio balls to grow the nitrate consuming bacteria as the new reactors do ?what gives?i understand pellets are self feeding ,but we can dose the balls also, right, thanks for the different inputs, ant

Carbon dosing (biopellets, vodka, vinegar, etc.) is completely different than using bioballs. Carbon dosing allows the uptake of more carbon macromolecules by more bacteria which will also uptake more nitrogen and phosphorus in the process. This is different than the partial nitrification process that occurs on bioballs.

Can they BOTH be used?

I have used both since I started my current tank in September of this year, using Vertex Biopellets instead of the Zeovit media. I dosed the other three basic Zeo additives per the manual through the cycle and have since added the amino acids and ZeoFood7. So far, I can report excellent success. Zero algae growth (including while cycling), no cyano. Nitrate and phosphate undetectable. I have a good number of SPS frags and a few colonies, all show decent color, perhaps a bit light (I'm shortening the photoperiod) excellent PE and good growth. My one concern is that the biopellets have not gotten soft. The Zeostart may be providing enough carbon that the bacteria have not aggressively colonized the pellets. I may cut back on the Zeostart and see what happens.

a mag 7 is a strong pump by any means, make sure your input ,out put hoses are connected to the right inputs,it happened to me a couple of times, one with rowa, other with bio pellets, having the in out reversed, will result in reduced tumbling,i have a mag 3 ,250 mg pellets, acceptable tumbling, bac bloom still clearing after 4 days,go slow good luck

Why.

Why.

I'm not trying to pick a fight, but have an honest interest in the logic behind your decision making. My question is WHY?

Why do you want to use either? What is your goal? Because if colorful corals are your goal, then neither Zeovit nor Bio-pellets are necessary. This is NOT to say that they do not offer benefits when used properly, but just to say that colorful corals CAN be grown without spending money on either of these technologies. So that brings me again to the question of what it is you ultimately want?
