Zeovit experiences?

Hi group. I was at Fragfarmers website reading about zeovit.... A recent post prompted me to see the site.

I've been throwing around the idea for what seems like years now. Or at least since it "came out". Do any of you locals do this in your reef? I'm interested in some cost facts.

1. What is the upfront cost?

2. About how much it costs to keep going after the initial investment?

I have a 120g mixed reef. Not really stocked to the gills yet.

I hope I'm not reinventing an old thread too much. ;) I didnt see one quite like this anyway.

Btw..... did you see the LE bali tricolor at FF? wow

I'm confused...looking at the guide it mentions this:
The following requirements are also necessary for the ZEOvit® method to be
successful:
6. Efficient strong skimming
7. Sufficient lighting
8. Optimization of nutrient addition
9. Addition of elements at low levels
10. Optimum water parameters (Ca, Mg, K+, KH, salinity)
11. Regular weekly water changes
12. Sufficient water flow
13. Use of live rock etc.

Wouldn't that just about guarantee the success of any system? OK, I'm half joking, but its similar to the diet ads that say 'in combination with small, healthy meals and 30 minutes of daily exercise, this diet system works!'.

Zeovite seems to be a method of adding nutrients and bacteria into a tank system that is skimmed to the point of being almost sterile.

When people talk about overskimming, this is what I visualise. Barebottom SPS tank with 70X (or more flow). Deltec-Demigod series skmmer and weekly water changes.

Nutrient levels become so low in these sort of tanks, that corals can actually starve to death. They have no fish and feed nothing into the tank, so water quality becomes unnaturaly clean.

Just add some Zeovite system products to your SPS-snob tank and you get a very controlled set of nutrients to feed your anorexic corals.

(SPS snobs love to micromanage the enviroment for their corals.)

I think it means that its not a miracle in the bottle and will only give optimum results then.

I think people who have high nitrates, poor lighting and otherwise poor husbandry would think this is a "quick fix" to getting that photogenic tank with colors o popping.

Ultralith is another brand.

Keeping the sticks alive is one thing, getting optimal coloration you can chase your tail on.

I havn't decided if its "cheating" or the next evolution for SPS. I suppose sugar dosing in the past and now adding Elos Aminos, I have one foot into it already.

I haven't considered it too much as have heard it can get spendy and perhaps may be for the reefer who has all they want and is in a maintainence mode.

The Zeovite method is not a "quick fix".

Proper, careful husbandry is a quick fix.
(not always an easy fix, but it always works)
If you cant handle that, zeovite is likely to make things worse.

But once you have your tank dialed in properly, Zeovite (or aminos, or Prodibio, etc, etc, etc) can really take your corals to a whole new level of beauty.

Which is exactly the same as I was saying, there is no "Genie in the bottle" here my friend.

Yeah, I kinda worded my first sentence terribly. I was agreeing with you Dots. Just trying to bump threads to get rid of some unpleasant ones that need to die.

Bumpity bump bump.

Thanks for the info... I've had very good results with amino dosage. I wonder if anyone in sac has any first hand knowledge. What you read from merchants and first hand experience can be a different world. As we all know, this is especially true with our money pits...... I mean... Reef tanks.

I have seen a few zeo tanks. Brian and Alicia both run zeo and they both have wonderful tanks. Do I believe that only zeo tanks can achieve beauty, no way. It is a lot of extra dosing and when I get a piece from a zeo sysytem, it always looks different than it will be in a non zeo tank.

There are a lot of nice things to zeo. I am not a zeoknocker as I know it can work. Its a lot of extra cash for this reefer when I know I can get great results without it.

I truly believe that this is a subject that only people who have ran zeo can touch on. Reading material does not make someone an expert on a subject matter. I know there are a few threads in the SPS forum on zeo.

Good luck with your decision.
