ZEOvit / KS Salt

I bought 40kgs of the above 'reefers best' salt and it tested out as follows at 25c and 34ppt:

PH6.8
DKH 9.7
Ca 340
Mg 1080
Potassium 280 (with thier new K test)

Disappointing! Particularly given the premium price.

Has any one else had experience of this salt? And how does it measure up?

TIA

Simon

I have never tried it , but heard they have some batches that are very low in key elements (like potassium and mg) Check the zeo forum I thought I heard they will replace it.

TryTheChi wow that is realy low. Did you get a chance to test the p04 levels. I was thinking of getting some but I want to see some better numbers then that. Hope they replace it and get thing corrected. I also read in the zeo forum that it come as a two part salt. You have to mix the two part to get it correct.

Hi Pat

I was one of those banned from over there for talking about Prodibio - but I'll speak to my dealer in the UK - just wanted to see if this was an isolated outcome or not. Thanks anyway.

Yes its a two part, and I'v followed the instructions exactly using calibrated digital scales.

I'm slightly annoyed as I changed over as a precaution as a result of the SC scare that started over there, as one of thier mods suggested this salt would be the solution to variable readings of other salts. Credability gap widening for that fella I fear:(

I'll check Po4 today - good point.

I'm sure the German company will sort it out as well as seachem did though:D I'll keep u informed.

Now where's my seachem bucket? lol

LOL the "2 part"....sounds alot like IO and OCEANIC to me...anyone????

I was a little disapointed to find it was a two part salt which is not on the web site. In practice its easy to meaure out both components and probably only adds 30 seconds t the w/c task:)

That was always the case.
When you get lousy readings or poor results, I reckon they will say that you mixed it wrongly. Same like what they said on zeovit stuff..

Hmm.... I wonder how many heads there got to make sacrifices. :(

I hope not too many guinea pigs out there to trial and test on their salts and feedback them till they make it perfect for you. With you losing both your money and corals first...

And i dont get it, you paid a preimium, you still need to DIY your salt mixes? Not if the perfect mixtures will make your water taste like Great Barrier Reef?

I think the idea of the 2-part is because at least some European contries don't have the need or simply don't use RO/DI for mixing. I know if I used tap water for mixing ASW I'd need a lot less Ca and Alk in the mix to get it where I want it otherwise my Ca would be higher than a kite with Oceanic (like it isn't already). :)

Hi Steve

that reminds me to take my TDS meter next time I go:cool: German tap water all over the country does taste better than most british water, but I'd find it hard to believe its 0 TDS and is likely to have NO3 and PO4 there is intensive agriculture in most areas.

Have you tried this salt yet?

Cheers

Simon

Simon,
Just an FYI, I believe they, KZ, are going to be coming out with "Reefers Best Salt" in a new batch in the next month or so that is suppose to be easier to mix, maybe re-worked a little, who knows for sure. Personally I think anyone that continues to re-work their product to make it better, more effective, whatever...is a good thing. The whole "guinea pig" reference earleier in the thread iseems inflammatory, but to each his own. I plan on trying the KZ "Reefers Best Salt" once I get through my Kent/IO which I mix together to get params where I want them. I am a bit paranoid in general when it comes to the whole salt issues. Seems there are enough troubles with "bad batches" throughout the industry, though I have been lucky to avoid these, still it troubles me. Hard to say if the KZ salt will be any better in the long run with batch production. I'd like to hope so and only time will tell.
