I have never tried it , but heard they have some batches that are very low in key elements (like potassium and mg) Check the zeo forum I thought I heard they will replace it.

Simon,
Just an FYI, I believe they, KZ, are going to be coming out with "Reefers Best Salt" in a new batch in the next month or so that is suppose to be easier to mix, maybe re-worked a little, who knows for sure. Personally I think anyone that continues to re-work their product to make it better, more effective, whatever...is a good thing. The whole "guinea pig" reference earleier in the thread iseems inflammatory, but to each his own. I plan on trying the KZ "Reefers Best Salt" once I get through my Kent/IO which I mix together to get params where I want them. I am a bit paranoid in general when it comes to the whole salt issues. Seems there are enough troubles with "bad batches" throughout the industry, though I have been lucky to avoid these, still it troubles me. Hard to say if the KZ salt will be any better in the long run with batch production. I'd like to hope so and only time will tell.

Hi slojmn

Thanks for the info - the salt I have is Reefers Best advertised as:

KH 8
Ca 400,00
Mag 1280,00
Potassium 390,00
Boron 5,0
Bromide 60,0
Iodine 0,06
Strontium 8,0

Achieving and maintaining these values are particularly important in the ZEOvit method, which places great emphasis on NSW values as the foundation for the rest of the method.

I agree its great that manufacturers rework thier products in the light of experience, but for those 'once stung' .... IMHO its understandable that one may feel its important to share the experience .......anyways - lets hope this gets resolved. QA is critical for SPS, and for people who trust their salts without testing - it could lead to trouble - so I er towards being a little assertive on these issues, whoever is taking my money. If if were human medicines or a medical practitioner and we experienced equivalent harm - courts would be an option. Given that we consume in an under-regulated market, its only us hobbyists who can exert market pressure...anyway I digress:o :D

I notice that someone elsewhere has said the results posted at the start of this tread dont stand because the PH is 'wrong' throwing out the other readings. I'll check that out with Randy, but either the PH is what is tested in which case there is an issue with the salt or the salifert test kit is off (possible but it is newish). You can see how some people's confidence may not be inspired by looking to attribute the issues to anything but the salt itself, not the way to do damage limitation IMO, but I'm confident the Germany company itself will come good.

Cheers

is it me or does that salt have a bluish tint in the picture? just curious

Its the color of a reef in the early morning:cool: Yes, and its also moist in consistancy.

Simon,
I couldn't agree with you more. Being a zeo user I have first hand experience regarding keeping my params in line with NSW, there does not seem to be a ton of wiggle room with regards to this when implementing Zeo.

I believe the Capive Ocean was saying the Zeovit will replaced the salt and have already shipped it to. You will need to get in touch with CO to get the new salt.

ok Sorry for that! So post a picture of the new BK skimmer running. So what differences have you noticed in your tank sence using Zeo. I'm waiting to cut the hole in the wall for my new 180 that will be Zeo.

Bought a bucket of KZ Reefer's Best Salt 8/28/06, tested Today.

KZSalt1.jpg

1.025, 77 degrees

PH - Salifert - 8.5 - was to lazy to move my probe
Calc - Salifert - (40) 400 - 400 after you add the included calcium
Alk - Lamotte - 8.4 dkh
Mag - Seachem - 1240

Pretty much in line with parameters Zeovit wants, though a high 7 dkh would be nicer. Overall not to bad. Need a Potassium test kit, but it should test in high 300's, low 400's.
