Zeovit - System

Bump this question. I was thinking the same thing. I was using the nano pack (CV, pohls, sp, lps aa) and finished it. I wanted to continue with just CV and Pohls. Running ULNS with vodka/vinegar and corals have rich color, and a few are on the pale-ish side.

Use Xtra special.

I drank the Zeovit kool-aid maybe 18 months ago.

I run the full system with stones, dose nearly all the additives, and have the venturi skimmer. My colors are vibrant, growth is exceptional, and nutrients are undetectable.

The biggest warning I can give to anyone interested is that your nutrients will tank BELOW natural saltwater levels. My biggest challenge is keeping my corals fed. Daily dosing of Coral Vitalizer and live phyto is key once you achieve ULNS.

Every SPS keeper I know tinkers with their tank daily, shaking the stones and adding .1mL of start3 takes me 30 seconds a day at most. Combined with feeding, I think my tank is very low maintenance. If I go out of town, I stop all dosing except for Coral Vitalizer and the carbon source. Never had an issue.

My tank is roughly 50 gallons

- Zeostart 3: 0.1mL twice a day or .2mL daily.
- Zeobak: 2 drops Mon, Weds, Fri
- Coral Vitalizer: 2 drops Mon, Weds, Fri
- Sponge Power: 2 drops Mon, Weds, Fri
- Pohl's Xtra: 2mL Mon, Fri
- Coral Snow: 2mL Mon, Weds, Fri
- Zeofood: 2 drops every now and then
- Zeospur: 0.5mL 1-2x a month
- AAHC: 2 drops Tues, Thurs, Sun
- Biomate: 2 drops Weekly
- B - Balance: 2 mL 1-2x week
- Stylo-Pocci Grow: 2 drops Weds, Sat
- Flatworm Stop: 2mL M,W,F Mixed with Coral Booster
- Coral Booster: 2mL M,W,F Mixed with Flatworm Stop
- Potassium Iodide Floride 2 drops Weds, Sun

Looks good! How much stones do you run, and how long are you able to leave on vacation?

I run a similar size tank and dose 0.6 mL of start/ day, still have high nutrients (2-5 ppm No3 and 0.05-0.09 ppm PO4) I wonder is less start is more per-say.

I dose 0.1-0.2ml Start3 daily, sometimes I skip days. I run about 500mL of stones. I usually don't run the ZEOvit 'rubble' but a fellow reefer recommended it so i'm trying it out in a mesh bag in the reactor. I don't like it, I can feel the bag scratching the inside of my Vertex reactor. I try to pump the reactor daily/twice a day, but I do sometimes forget.

I have gone up to 2 weeks traveling and just a have a reefer friend come and occasionally feed the fish, check the ATO, add some zeobak/start, pump the reactor, and add a few drops of coral vitalizer. Its amazing how you can bribe people with frags :ape: . I've never had a hitch.

IME you want to have some trace amounts of organic waste in your tank. Corals do scrub these from the water. This is why we aim for ULNS with our water but constantly add food additives like SP, CV, and AAHC.

Are your colors/PE/growth good?

Any algae issues?

My color is a tad dark, my pe is weak and growth is slow at best. I have 8 fish so I'm always feeding them, I was hoping zeovit would of taken over by now (10 months) I get algae on the glass every other day, not bad, other than bubble algae there is none. I do get a brown bloom on hhek sand daily, it's not Dinos nor is it cyano.

I use food 2 drop 2x week, AAhc two drop daily, two drop cv daily, two drops sponge power daily, extra, 1ml day and coral snow every once in a while.

I'd say cut down on the Pohl's (maybe 3 x week) and the food. B-Balance (2-3x a week) and Zeospur (1/2 doses every two weeks) will lighten up your corals.

Do you use LED's? I hate to say it but LED's seem to very unflattering for SPS colors. I use an Elos Planet II with Halides and T5's. Most 'gung-ho' SPS keepers I know use only T5's with maybe LEDs for supplements.

I haven't tried b balance, what does that do? I know spur can do what I need, but I'm a bit scared. Yes I run LEDs, radion pro, I'm not sure it's the problem but it seems t5 work better.

B-Balance seems to generally lighten up corals, very flattering to the color red/pink. Spur is awesome in LOW, occasional doses.

Honestly I think your woes are coming your lights. I've ran AI SOLs, Hydras, 52's, Ecoxotic Cannons, Stark, and nearly every generation of Radions over the years working in the industry. Nothing beats the T5 or halide for SPS both in growth and color.

LED's are great for sofites, LPS (except high end chalice), and basic SPS. When your running a system like ZEO that's all about color, they just dont seem to jive well. Have you thought about running some T5's in conjunction with your radion?

Im not sure the lighting is everything, my coral are dark, brown. I think I am going to half all my dosing and see what happens. Maybe I am feeding too much, I plan on getting a neptune autofeeder so I can feed less more often and help balance the nutrient load. I really like the radion with the programability and function, I upgraded to the TIR wide angle lens and have seen and improvement in spread and color.

Another thing to try is doing large water changes, a 2 x 20% a week for about a month. If there is any trace phosphate or ionic ratios off-balance, this will correct them.

I have run small amounts of ROWAphos passively in a small bag in my overflow box with great success in the past.

Don't be afraid of ZEOspur, it is an amazing product when used properly.

Need advise here

i hve done full blown zeo on my last tank and i was very impressed . My job keeps me so busy that i wanted to stay simple as possible but still dose bak and other aditives but no stones. My system is small 30x24x16 shallow with hardly any space under the tank for any reactors beside skimmer. whats the best way to deal in this situtation . Would it be ok to dose basics plus others without stones or stones are mandatory for basics such as zeoback live bacterias....

hello, just to answer some of the questions ... I use basically all the additives now or have before ... it takes your reef to the next level.
there is of course a learning curve and takes some time to understand the "science" behind it and what each product does, so you can alter your dosing as needed.

it also makes set up much easier ... display tank with flow .. as much rocks as u wish ... [zeoliths take care of it] sump with skimmer, heater, zeoreactor and GAC. plus lighting on display and that's it.

dosing is once /twice a day ... as said above, if you do not have time for that ... then you wont have time for an aquarium ... takes me about 3-4 minutes a day to dose, but I spend alot more time looking at my corals.

I do not advice ppl's first reef tank to be on zeovit, should use berlin method for a while, and when you have success you should move to Zeovit to take it to next level.

Hope it helped.

some recent pics : and my tank is overstocked with fish IMO.
