Yeah, I'm always happy to hear Gary's thoughts... Would love to know what he thinks is going on for 7-10 weeks with the KZ Zeolites where things really shine...?

So one might be able to take there phosban reactor with carbon in it. and put it on a 3hrs on/off -Clack it against the side of the sump 1-2 times aday and maybe achive good results.I thought about trying this with vodka since i have been using it on/off for the last 5yrs or so.
Also anybody know why they say to run the carbon passively instead of in a reactor?

Going on my thoughts from above.and i maybe wrong.but i thought the only real purpose the reactor served was to give a place for the bacteria to strip the water hence the 3hrs on and off So my thoiughts are why wouldnt bioballs or such work.seems theres some old nitrate reductors out there that work the same way.old aquamedic i think.

Jury is still out on that one. At the very least they seem to give the bacteria a good home. Many who use Zeolith report noticing some effect on the corals that seems to correspond with the Zeolith needing an exchange. Its Anecdotal from what I see. But their could be something too it.
You might be able to use bioballs. But you would still have to replace them every now and then. From what I understand is the beauty of the Zeolith is you can cheaply replace it before it has a chance to leech back into the system. In other words you don't have to worry about a slow leeching of organics as with liverock.. With the bioballs you would just have to have a couple of sets......I think that if one was going to try something you might be better off with one of those porous stone type medias. Like the Ehfistrate or what ever its called.

I am using a 2LF phosphan reactor as a sub zeoreator in my frag tank, i just unhook the tubes and give it a shake.

The self-deletion was a rant about mass transfer rate. That's the underlying principle for the rapid nutrient reduction dynamics that's going on with "reactors". Suffice it to say that the notion that bacterial coloniztion, and ionic-exchange, are the primary variables is simply inaccurate. This principle has some profound implications in terms of dosing quantities, the properties of various media, and next generation "reactor" design ... but that's a documentation flow for another format.
