Zeovit

Well here is an update on things I am did today:

1. removed hang on refugium to get rid of the excess phos and nutrients contained in there.

2. Did a 8% water change because i was afraid i may have OD'ed the tank on the vodka/vinegar/sugar mixture but it does not seem that way things are running fine and look good.

3. Removed old filter pads to get rid of excess nutrients.

4. Removed seachem phosgaurd

5. Dosed 20 ml of sechem stability

6. dosed 5ml kent Iron

7. Added 1/8 teaspoon of vodka/sugar/vinegar mix

8. 1 drop lugols solution

Anything else I should do for now. I am awaiting my AA's, potassium and ESV supplements to be shipped. Will test all my levels tomorrow and post the results to see if anyhting looks out of place.

its only been 4 days since i started to dose AA and my polyp extension is crazy!!!! the one i can notice the most one is my deep water coral. it never showed polyps before. only sometimes at night just a bit. now it has really nice polyps out most of the day and night. hope i can find an older picture.

here is an older picture, it was mounted in a different spot with different t5 bulbs. the polyp extension never improved only two days after i started AA :D

That looks great. Can't wait to start my AA dosing next week when my shipmnet arrives.

How clear is your water? Once you achieve low nutrient, that 900 watts of light may be a shock to the corals. The water is so clear in these systems that less light is needed. Ive lowered my photoPeriod to 5 hrs for the metal halides. As the corals adapt to the higher light levels I'll increase the photoPeriod.

My water is super claer at least to me. I can look from one end of the tank to theother and read items oof paper and the lables of bottles. As for my photo period I only run my halides for 5 hours and T5 HO's for about 10-12, looking into adding some LED moon lights but things seem to be fine running fine in the dark as is and I can see excellent polyp extension when the lights are off. Will keep dosin the v/s/v mix and monitor. I will also take some current photos and post them but my camera is not great trying to save for a G9.

I dosed AA's for a week now. Some corals are showing huge PE

Others havent changed :( hopefully they just need more time.

Sponge power looks to be one of the best additions to the zeovit line of products.

People are getting amazing growth from their acros. This stuff was developed to feed sponges (hence the name) but its proving to be much more then that. Clams, feather dusters, Tunicates, etc are all coming to life in their tanks.

looks like the next thing i need to buy :)

I was broiwsing FM's site and the only things they have that look similar is the AA"s they list. Nothing thats a seperate supplement itself.

The closest product they have is the Ultra-min s

http://www.faunamarin.de/eng/index.php?submenu=1000

Here is a detailed descrition of "sponge power"

"Special food for sponges, tridacnas and sea squirt.
Enhanced growth of sponges and sea squirt support their water cleaning character and thus water quality significantly. SPS corals get longer colored growing tips.
Especially purple is enhanced on all SPS.
The recovery of harmed corals is highly improved. Dosing: 1 drop for 25 gallons or 1 ml for 500 gallons daily."

So I am still dosing with the Vodka/Sugar/Vinegar and see no real change in algae in the tank or with my skimming. Dosed 1/8 of a teaspoon.

Tested water paremeters tonght and these were the read outs.

ph: 8.2
dkh: 6.5
cal: 440
phos: 0-0.1
salinity: 1.026
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 10-20
temp: 82-84

Will keep dosing the v/s/v and addin seachem stability to be sure things are running properly. Anyone have an idea of how long it take to notice a difference in parameters or change in the livestock. I mean my water is clear but there is still some algae present on rocks, glass , and over flow.

Just wondering, what PO4 kit are you using? Resolution or reading between 0 to 0.10 is pretty broad. Too broad to effectively see any appreciable decline in P. Just an opinion.

With that Red Sea, the scale says 0.1 to 3.0 ppm - that's pretty worthless to measure low levels of PO4, just a guessing game. I see a difference in my tank if there is a change from, say, 0.02 to 0.06 or 0.08.

I would recommend another kit, like DD Merck or if you want to drop some coin, a Hanna. The DD is like $75 or 80 bucks, you can get refills, and the scale is in tune for reading low levels (something along the lines of 0.02 to 0.40 PO4) you're trying to measure in lower nutrients tanks.

Thanks for the tips I got that kit from a friend I figured it was pretty worthlees as far as testing goes. Are there any other kits out there not as expensive? Something in the 20-30 range. I just dropped 100 on supplements for when the v/s/v starts depleting my nutrients in the next week or two

My phosphate kit reads non-detect...whatever that means  (thanks Salifert  ).

I wish I had the dough to throw down on a nice Merck or Hanna colorimeter! Right now I'm relying on observation of the corals and algae to figure out if I've attained my maintenance dose. It's not very scientific but it has worked for me up to this point.

wow 12 dollars? i just added it to the cart and im buying! thanks yet again Zadar. because of you i ordered 5 times from 5 different places to get together this poor mans zoavit you invented over here. :D
now if there was such a cheap potassium test kit.

Agreed Zedar has made this zeovit thread a much cheaper way th achieve the same results with less $$$ which is a huge bonus in this hobby considering the cost of equipment and maintenance fees we have to pay. Well I cant wait for the months to go by so i can see the results of the low nutrient system
