Zeovit

I already posted my experience (bad) with dosing KCL...coral TN within 24 hours.

With the Warner Marine ionically balanced supplement so cheap to use, I don't understand the desire to dose with a chloride-based human food supplement. Just my .02.

You didnt experience dead fish, snails and shrimp.

And i chalked up your experience to adding it too fast. I had a coral TN also. But again I poured the dose right over it. After noticing it the day after dosing, I started dosing in the sump........ slowly, and had no more TN.

Dont misunderstand me, I respect your opinion. I just weighed the responses and you were one of the few that had reported problems.

I read the label on my kent coral-vite, which has a decent amount of potassium in it. And guess what they use. KCl. This is the potassium salt that they use in many (if not all) potassium supplement additives: kent coral vite, kent essential elements, and probably the warner marine K supplement.

Mixing RO/DI and KCl, is essentially creating your own batch of warner or kent or whatever you want to call it. Just a stronger dose, and because of that, used mroe carefully.

Well I was dosing about 2-3 tablespoons a day all i nthe sump never in the display tank. Although I never noticed rtn with the Kcl. my issues i think were more reltated to the changing of the sanf bed and probably low o2 levels from the v\s\v mix. but i had so much going on I couldnt narrow it down to one thing

Alright. My KCl arrived.

I did one dose. .5 teaspoon in a glass of RO/DI, and added it slowly to the sump.

I will do this daily, until I see the color in my monti begin to come back. I noticed this morning that after doing a 10% wc with extra added trace elements, that I had some PE, and a little color back in the monti cap.

I will keep you guys updated and I'll report my findings. Lets hope this helps.

Also, I noticed that there is also magnesium carbonate in the KCl powder also. Maybe Ill get a little mg boost too! ;)

Once you start noticing the color come back stop. Any more will just grow algae and wont help the monti.

Do not dose KCl without a test kit... many reefers have reported issues when they OD'd on K... If your K levels are low, water changes won't do anything much unless you're only slightly low. How do you know that K levels in RC is low? Did you test?

I wouldn't take a lack of PE to mean anything on your M cap.... When zeo users reported issues with their M caps and found low potassium, what they found was that the coral was very dry and pale.

The only anecdotal information about Iron is a faded look to green corals, but if you have algae (micro, macro), these would probably stopped growing first due to Iron limitation. You have to be careful dosing Iron.... Iodide is the same way, there isn't a lot of scientific data to show the benefit, anecdotal include better blues in blue sps, and better health for xenia...

yeap...we used test kit before dosing KCL....but were using the KZ test kit as this is the only one availalbe to us locally....i am guessing its a little hard to read and some might have exceeded the limits while thinking its still within the safe level....we have gotten ours cheap from a lab supplies company....maybe that's why....

ANyone know where I can get a good but cheap Mag test kit, all the ones I have seen are like 3- bucks, shoot some links to me PM or post here in the thread thanks.

i like the elos kit. they upgraded their accuracy and its now 75ppm per drop instead of 100.

i would recommend that one, but it may be in the 30's...

Yeah, I think last time I ordered ELOS Mg it was just under $30... most Mg kits are about $25 - 30, unless you get Red Sea, but you may as well just light your $ on fire at that point

I started ZEOvit today. I just started using the following additives on my 20 month old reef tank. I bought the ZEObak, ZEOfood7, Amino Acids Concentrate and Phol's K-Balance Potassium.

If you are going full zeo you should also look at the ZEOstart im not going full zeo but i am starting there additives.

Are you using there reactors with the zeovit or just using additives, cause im pretty sure the ZEObak and the ZEOfood is used for people who are using the reactors someone correct me if im wrong cause i dont use full zeo.

No reactor or ZEOlith. The ZEObak and ZEOfood7 are to replenish and feed bacteria to keep PO4 and NO3 undetectable.

Ricky,
Unless you are ULNS, then I do not think dosing the AA's will do anything for your corals. From all that I have read, you do not want to start dosing the AA's until the 2nd to 3rd stage of Zeo. While I understand you are not going full Zeo, this is probably a good guideline for your too follow as well.

But the whole key to this system is not the reactor, or the zeoliths...It's the Carbin Source in the ZEOstart that will feed the bacteria in the system as well as the ZEO bac...without the carbon you'll see limited results (if not bad results from the additional food) from the supplements you are using. You don't nessecarily have to use ZEOstart or a reactor...LOTS of folks are using vodka/sugar/vinegar in a mix or individually for the carbin source. Look here for more info (it's lots of reading :)) http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1225324&perpage=25&pagenumber=1
