at first they said it was safe for Zeovit then the guy who owns cherrycorals said that the rocks should be removed while treating with AlgaeX and that it does not work on cyano.

for hair algae it should work but so does kent pro MG or chemi clean.

? i have never used it, I guess they are pretty different, algaex does not work on cyano and chemi only works for cyano.

Cyano is a bacteria, and does not grow the same as algaes/plants do. From what I understand, the ultra algae x shuts down the photosynthesis process in all algae. It will get rid of any and all true algae, hair algae, derbesia, bryopsis, dinos, etc.. It does not harm the corals since the algae is in the tissue of the coral itself and does not get affected. To treat cyano, just use E-mycin or any type of antibiotic really. It will clear it up in no time at all.

I have used chemi-clean on cyano. It works very well. You just have to shut down the skimmer since it makes it foam like crazy and will overflow. The cyano never came back either.

I am ULNS. I have been dosing a carbon source for 4 months now. I cooked the rocks for 2-3 months prior to putting them in the tank. I believe that I can achieve the same results as a Zeo tank w/o the basic 4.

If the zeolites and the back are the heart, then the supplements are the brain. I can get my own heart (v/s/v dosing, seachem stability), but I can't do without the brain (AAHC, CV, PIF, etc).

We will see how the next few months goes, perhaps I will like the supplements so much that I will buy a rx and the stones, but maybe not.

all the basic 4 does is get you to a nutrient deprived system... you can also get there using other methods...

bak= gives your system the needed bacteria
Food = feeds the bacteria
Rocks = grows the bacteria
Start = helps to reduce unwanted nitrates by bonding to them for export via a skimmer

carbon, phosphate remover, regular water changes and a good skimmer can also do this, although zeo can do this faster and more efficiently IMO

Although I have made a few posts in other threads concerning my Zeo use, I thought I might chime in here as well.

I have been on Zeo for a bit over 3 months. So far all has gone wel and the system is responding with great color and tremendous growth.

Dosing on 60 gal net volume:

Bak 2 drops 2Xweek
Food7 1 drop 2X week
Start2 .15 ml 2x day
AA 1 drop 3x week
PXtra .5ml daily
BBalance .5ml 3x week
PIF 2 drop 2Xweek
SP 1 drop 4x week
Coral vit 1 drop 4x week

Any thoughts on adding Coral Snow to your dosing schedule? From what I've read, it's an excellent vehicle to get the AAHC or CV to the corals.

i use PCS with Bak to lower nutrients and fight cyano, its a great product and you dont need to be ULNS or Zeo to use it.

Good point Nick. I read that as well. It has also been suggested to add 1 mL of PCS to AAHC/CV and dose at night for optimum results.
