Zibba's Reefs

awesome shots Eric!

sorry to hear about the rhomboid, stuff happens :(

time to make the screen :)

Thanks! I think I got the bugs worked out with the flash so I should be good next time I swing by for a photo shoot!

Planning to make the screens tomorrow. I put the glass tops back on for the time being. I need to start looking for a female rhomboid -- I don't want my male rhomboid getting lonely!

Oh, I almost forgot some other exciting news: A few weeks ago we got a male ruby red dragonet hoping that it would pair up with our female and it did! They started doing this mating dance every night around 10:00 p.m.

Kwoww took the video with her cell phone and posted it to instagram, I have no idea how else to link it here so I'm just going to attach the website. Hope it works

1st off, congratulation, it looks spectacular, great job all around!

One nit-pick safety item: In the he bottom of your dry (electrical) box you have a fully loaded power strip.

This appears to be an inexpensive - type with a one piece molded plastic cover. The receptacles all likely plug into a simple bus bar underneath.

These inexpensive units are prone to overheating and represent a firehazard. The surge protection circuit itself on the unit is prone to overheating and meltdown, with the casing providing a low flash-point source of ignition to an overheated bus or surge circuit.

No reason to skimp here. You have a multi-thousand dollar system inside of your home. Use premium - safe equipment through-out. Find a metal cased unit with individual receptacles. They are not much more expensive...

Do a google search on surge protector fires you will see what I am talking about... Just my .02

Great looking tank, and very cool video. Its the small things like that that remind us why we have these boxes of water in our homes.

It has been very entertaining to watch and every night we see them go into this ritual, we remind ourselves that there are very few people who get to see these fish mate.

Lurshy, thanks for the compliments and for pointing that out. I'll make the change but if you have a recommendation and wouldn't mind pm'ing me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

She's a beaut! Great fish porn

Thanks bud!

Nice set up & great SPS collection!

I appreciate you following along! :)

Was that an orange bounce mushroom? Didn't look like a jersey bounce, but man, you got some really nice sps.

Yes, that mushroom has orange bubbles. Very beautiful mushroom that just keeps getting better and better. I got it from a friend who got it from WWC. I don't think that WWC has officially "released it" (or whatever marketing term they use) but I was told WWC has a few in their main display. Similar to the jersey bounce but not the same.

Thanks for the compliment on the SPS too! They're holding pretty good color for me at the moment.

As always, GREAT picture update! So sorry to hear about the Rhomboid. :(
And Oh My! We LOVE those Ruby Red Dragonets! :inlove:

This cool little starfish has been cruising around our reef for the last month or so. Fingers crossed for long-term success!

Haven't updated in awhile so I dusted off the camera yesterday. Let's just start things off with an updated FTS:

FTS 2.15.15 by ..:.. EZ ..:.., on Flickr

Things are continuing to settle in. Growth and colors have been solid and the fish are sorting out the pecking order. I've experimented with upping the AcroPower dosing, but brought it back down after seeing a little more green-cyano type slime on the sand bed. We have lost a few fish in QT along the way--most recently a male lineatus wrasse that was gorgeous--but I'm trying to remind myself that that's part of this hobby. I'm just about done adding tangs (last one I'm looking for is a nice juvi dussumier) but I reserve my right to add another if it strikes my eye. ;)

I usually use a flash for my fish pictures, however, I decided to try something different during last night's photo session. Hope you enjoy a few of these new fish pictures:

I don't think convicts get enough credit; I think they're stunning tangs and they're hard working fish!

Our juvi desjardini tang is starting to get cool markings around its face (they grow up so fast!):

I don't think I've shared a picture of this fish in a long time. It's an Elegant Coris Wrasse (Coris venusta). Not nearly as colorful as others I've seen but it's such an active hunter and a very peaceful fish in my tank (unless you're a pod):

This is the newest addition: a Whitetail Bristletooth tang, which we picked up in San Diego. It was super shy in QT but it's very active and hangs right in the mix with the other fish now that it's in the display. I always said, "I'd never pay that much for a whitetail kole tang." But the price was right and, in person, the fish was much more breath-taking than I could imagine, so we bagged it up. It's a great addition and the contrast is really something else.

I love this fish: a Blonde Naso tang that we've had for a few months now. Was active and personable in QT and hasn't changed now that it is in the display. Hoping to watch it mature over the years to come:

At heart, I love SPS reefs but my obsession with mushrooms has been growing for the past few years. I've had most of these for awhile but they kept detaching and spent several months in a mushroom cage until they reattached so I haven't gotten to enjoy or take pictures of them. They're finally settled into a nice spot in the main display where I can appreciate and share pictures of them.

This first one is my current favorite. I picked it up from Brandon (zoanthid.com) in Denver at MACNA. It has continued to grow and is becoming more stunning as the bubbles form and the teal blue gets more intense.

I don't think this one needs an introduction, but it's name is deserving: the original Jawbreaker mushroom.

This one came from a local store and is turning out to be a stunner:

This massive radiant orange yuma is center stage of the smaller ADA. It is currently part of a grow-out for our local coral auction (it has split off a few babies that are growing out right now):

Fantastic shots Zibba! The Whitetail Bristletooth Tang looks great and I'm glad he acclimated well.

Thanks, Wayne! Me too!

wow great shots, tank is looking amazing! love that shot of the convicts

Thanks, Elliott!

Here's one more that was just a random snap-shot. I wish I had been paying more attention to the blonde "flexing" because it's happens so infrequently that I've never been able to capture an in-focus shot of it.
