Zoa disease?

what is wrong with these zoas? I dont see any zoanthid eating nudi eggs, i took them out and looked them over when they were closed up. Its showing up on a few polyps in 3 different colonies. I didnt notice whatever the white thing is on the pink ones when I took the photo, Im going to take another look, maybe it was a nudi.

and i dont need any comments on the algae, my bulbs shifted and it took me a while to figure out that was what was wrong, they had only been running for 9 months @ 8 hours per day.

If it were nudi's they would be closed up.. Or at least in my experience.

Were they full grown adult polyps that shriveled down to that? Some zoas will look like that before they mature, they're still growing. As long as they're open and aren't melting I wouldn't be too concerned. If they were adult polyps that have gone to that bleached look I would be concerned about the possibility of something stinging them. Do you have any LPS or anemones nearby?

double check for spider crabs and sundial snails. They are also zoanthid predators.

They were full grown. There isnt any SPS close enough to sting. I have seen some tiny snails lately, in fact that is what i think is on that pink one. they are about the size of a BB, but they dont really look like a sun dial unless they are still babies. I'll look again tonight for spider crabs.

Can you try and get a shot of your little snails? Good luck looking for spiders...they're hard to find!

LPS is what you have to worry about most SPS would be okay.. even though I have seen Zoo's take over the SPS.

In the 2nd pic. it looks like it is next to an LPS (Glaxia(sp)) that will sting them for sure. Cannot really tell what the 1st pic is by to see if anything would be stinging it.

the zoa's were actually stinging the galaxia until trimmed them back the day of the frag swap. the thing has doubled in size since. Maybe the roles have changed now and he is stinging, but wouldnt all of the zoas around it be reacting the same way? There is a frogspawn by the GPE's but there are polyps closer to it than the ones in the photos that arent reacting the same way. I will try to get a picture of the snails tonight, I dont know if my macro will show enough detail though.

I dipped the pink zoas and this is all i could see that came off. There were about 3 of them in the bottom of the bucket. it doesnt look like a sundial to me, but what do i know. I cut out the bad GPE's and so far there arent any other ones doing this.

Nope, not a bad snail, but a good pic! It could very well be the galaxia. Have you tried isolating the colonies with the infected zoas so that you can rule out stinging?
