Bubble magus doser dosing vodka, alk,ca dose mag manually
SWC 160 cone skimmer
10% W/C every week but decided to make it 20% bi-weekly to see if that helps

1 radiant wrasse
1 helfrechi
1 mandarin
1 cleaner shrimp

I'm having a problem with my sps colors looking faded or pastel like colors. I have noticed my zoas are starting to look like they're bleached/ have faded colors also. I first had a high nitrate problem. 20-40 ppm. Which turned my sps brown. I started dosing vodka and nitrates are low now which turns some of my sps that werent brown to a pastel color. I feed my fish heavily, dose zeovit AA every other day. Marine snow every other day opposite of AA. I try to have some nutrients for my corals to feed off of.

I was thinking I have too much light? My lights were at 10 inches from my water line and I raised it to 12". dawn/dusk comes on 6:00pm. Day lights 7pm-12:30am. dawn/dusk off at 1:30am. All corals start off at the bottom of the tank and is raised up slowly. I have since cut my daylights back an hour. Its been a week and still no improvements. Should I raise my lights higher?

If it's not my light, what could be causing the colors to fade so much? Everytime I get a new frag, the colors are bright and vivid. after being in my tank for a week or so. it fades to a light pastel color. What am I doing wrong? Please give me some advice to rectify the problem. Heres some pics of my problems. These pics will show you what the frag looked like when I bought it. and what it looks like now.

Sometimes when people start vodka dosing their water becomes very clear and it bleaches the corals out. You can run a shorter photo period or move things down or into a shaded area.

Have you changed out your bulbs recently I know sometimes if you change them all at one time it will cause Zoas to bleach. Normally what I do is put them in a fairly shaded area with low flow and they will color back up. Also with the vodka dosing you have to be careful while some have great success others have tank crashes

Can you relate any changes you made to the tank to the time this started? I don't think it's your photo period. How old are your bulbs? Have you had any PH OR ALK swings?

Ran carbon before I started vodka dosing, water has always been crystal clear.

I've had great success with vodka, it took my nitrates from 20-40ppm down to .5 ppm nitrate (salifert)

Bulbs are 4 months old. I changed my salt from DD to TMP and added a doser a month ago to dose alk, ca and vodka. mag dosed manually. I have raised my lights another 3" for a total of 15" above the water line. Cut my vodka from 2ml daily to 1ml to see if nitrates will climb up a little. Maybe a little more nutrients in the water will help them color up again. I had cut my photo period back one hour a week before I made this post. If you guys have any other suggestions I will gladly listen. Otherwise I will see if raising the lights and cutting back on vodka will help. Thanks guys

A couple of issues I can see. First, the original pictures are not really accurate unless you're a smurf  That being said, yes they do appear to be struggling a bit. Secondly, I'd increase feeding quite a bit assuming you have decent filtration (i.e. skimmer). Your tank and corals look very nutrient deprived at this point. Extra food, a little amino acids, etc wouldn't hurt. Third, how old is the tank? Some of the rock looks like literally brand new dry rock that hasn't even cycled yet.

Tank was setup in Jan of this year. Some of the rocks look new because they are new! I swapped out some of my fiji for marco rock because the fiji was infested with bubble algae and rather then trying to remove it from the rock. I took the rock out completely.

As far as feeding goes, I have stepped up my feeding quite a bit even though I think I was feeding kind of heavy to begin with. Will keep this thread updated as I see results or lack of... Thanks

If all you have are frags at the moment, I would stop the dosing and just rely on water changes and see how things go.

Like RockleM said. This was stated in the reefkeeping vodka dosing article. Ultra low nutrients has been known to make sps colors fade, and dosing amino acids has been shown to correct this.

I don't know about marine snow, you might try feeding rod's food. It will feed everything, fish and corals.

Increase your feedings. My polyps and SPS looked the same I never fed because of GHA and now that I beat it and added a couple fish plus began to feed again they are all starting to look great!
