Zoa or Anemone or Other

Got a rock from my LFS with 2 types of zoas.... Cat Eyes and Olaudah Equiano (i think... their weird blues)

well i noticed this one sticking out from the bottom... didnt notice it until it was in my tank.... can someone id this.... is it a zoa, anemone or something else?

if its something i dont want... how do i safely remove it?

It is very pretty, it isn't an aiptasia or majano anemone which are usually the pest anemones. That looks like a rock anemone of some sort.....I personally would keep it, if it stings stuff see if you can get it off the rock and place it where there is nothing on your rock work so it is by itself.

yup, thats some sort of rock anemone.

due to the nature of how close it is to those zoas, i would get rid of it. very unlikely would will be able to get it to move somewhere you *want* it to go. in order to get it off that rock, you can aim a power head directly on it, the anemone will detach and float to another rock near by in about a day or so.

or you can just take a syringe of joes juice to it which will kill it instantly.

looks kinda cool. so if you can figure out a way to get it to detach and get on its own small rock, i would keep it around. (but maybe in a seperate tank)

if i go the joes juice and syringe route........ do i have to worry about the zoas that are right next to it.....


i take it... stick the syringe in the "mouth" of it... but do i have to worry about joes juice getting into the water and killing other corals?

You would be fine like that....Why not try to remove it first? I mean why kill something as pretty as that is if you don't have to?

because i've had no-luck fragging stuff..... its gotta move cause its touching some zoas, and all the ones its touching are %75 closed up... so i know they dont like it....

i guess i can try to frag it off the rock...... i do really like how it looks, it looks like a gold zoa

If you can rub ice on it's foot it may detach itself easily

also... I've never seen that before.... do you know where the rock came from?

nope........... got it from my LFS.... its a baseball size rock with two types of zoas on it.......... Cat Eyes and Olaudah Equiano (i think).... put the rock in my tank......... 24hrs later noticed that anemone poking out from the bottom... but it is touching zoa's on that rock... so thats not good
