Zoa Pox Furan-2 Results

I recently bought a zoa frag off the net and about 4 to 5 days later it started to get zoa pox. It still opens up and it's growing but still has the pox.

I did the Furan-2 treatment for 3 days using this site for directions:

http://www.zoaid.com/articles004.php

Here are my results for the 3 day Furan-2 treatment.

I was also wondering if anyone has had success with the Hydrogen Peroxide method ( 1/3 HP and 2/3 Saltwater for 2-3 min dip)?

The Furan-2 seems to be working but it's very slow. I will have to do another dip once this frag recovers. Should I continue o do the Furan-2 or should I switch it up to Hydrogen Peroxide once the frag recovers?

Any help would be great :)

pox isn't a parasite or anything, just an overproduction of the zoa so peroxide wouldn't work but i have heard that Furan-2 works frequently. id say stick with it.

Overproduction of the zoa?
What does that mean exactly, please?

Please teach me about that.

Grandis.

Me too please Never heard that before and would like to know about it.
Overproduction of what?Furan 2 is a bacterial treatment. Do you think it harms over porduced zooxanthelae ,somehow? Why would the coral overporduce zooxanthelae in any case? How would Furan 2 know when to stop killing zoox if that's the scenario?

Lee, your progress looks consistent with the photos in Thanh Nguyen's article. Does anything good happen fast in a reef tank? Grandis, one hypothesis is that zoa pox is caused by overproduction of zooxanthellae caused, e.g., by elevated temperature, etc. I cannot find any articles that definitively conclude what causes or doesn't cause zoa pox. tmz, I too wonder about why the Furan 2 doesn't simply kill too many zoox. Thanh Nguyen's treatment is a series of Furan 2 dips of 15-30 minutes in duration, 24 hours apart. After 3 treatments he suggests a 4-7 day rest before any additional treatments, so perhaps he has simply worked enough with Furan 2 to know. If I ever get zoa pox I'm going to use this method.

Update

Just wanted to update results.

I after first treatment I waited 6 days before I did another round of dips. The zoa pox was still going away even after the first round but just took some time. Anyways, after the 2nd round of treatment the zoa pox is gone completely!!

I couldn't be happier with the Furan-2 treatment. My zoas were hardly stressed with the treatments too so I was happy about that. Anyways, Thanks for the replies and I will use Furan-2 again for sure if I ever have this issue come up again.

I had zoa pox and used the Furan method. It took a few weeks, but it did the trick. The zoas are looking good and thriving now. Cant speak to the peroxide, but from what i understand it would not be effective for zoa pox.

Glad to hear it help your problem out too. Zoa pox can be very frustrating.
