I have a 7x12in Eagle Eye colony and Im helplessly watching something eat it.I don't think I can get a pic.Every couple of min it streches out from deep in the mat and grabs a bite and then quickly draws back to the mat. It's not a bristle and Im pretty shure its not a spegettie worm.It looks and moves like a earth worm with a mouth at the end.It strehes out and then draws back in.It looks like it gets a very thin layer of tissue off the polyp.I've pulled the piece out and looked for it around the mat but cant find it.I've done a 2min freshwater dip followed by 1min skaking in the freshwater.Killed a bristle worm.few pods and a few mini bristle stars but not the worm in question.Any help would be greatly apreciated!

Thanks!

Probably a eunicid worm i think, dont kill me for butchering the name. I had one, wiped out Zoas and ate ricordia. They are extremely fast and wont take bait like a bristle worm in a trap. I eventually had to remove the rock . It will eventually come out or die in the rock if you give it a good freshwater dip

It sounds like a peanut worm to me, but I've never heard of them eating any corals. Does it look like this?

http://www.pirx.com/gallery/worms/worm01

looks similar but no stripes. Its sort of translucent white/cream when streched out.

No.I haven't tried Lugol's yet.That's next but I cant get any quick!

Man!I wish I could grab it with my tweasers but its too quick!

Hey Pink,
I looked at the pirx site it's similar to the one called Chaetopterid Worm, but I cant tell much from that pic and I did a search and found nouthing.

I don't think its a peanut.It has no (fat)end.

It streaches out, adhears its (mouth)to the polyp and then pulls away, pulling the polyp with it and then seperates.3/4 of the polyps are now closed.

I think its eating them!

You normally wouldn't see the fat end. They keep that inside the rock or sand. Only if you got him out would you see the fat end.

peanuts are crazy....

They elongate real quick, grab on to the first thing their months touch and jump back into the burrow..

If you are INDEED seeing it EAT and INGEST a zoathid... thats a problem!

Penuts, dont have eyes, only a mouth, and are normally tan in color, with a smooth body...

If yours is anything different... its not a peanut worm!
