Zoa question

well, i made an order from reef empire, called my wife and told her where to put them.. they all opened , but one keeps closing.. I know why, it is because she put it where there is strong water flow, maybe too much for it.. My question is, will it be fine for 3 and a half more weeks until i am home to move it, or, should I just have her move it now?/ Man, she sent me a pic, coralline algae is annoying, it has grown like crazy, I wont let her clean it off my arcrylic tank, so, its salmost to where you cant see in.. Lol, i am going to have alot of work when i get home.. Can you use a razor blade carefully on arcrylic?? thanks, Mike

I would tell her to move it right away. The polyps will start to fall off if you don't move it soon. Either that or it will just melt away. I have no idea how to clean acrylic tank, never had one....Maybe someone else would know! Good Luck!

I strongly advie not using a razor on acrylic. It scratches way too easy..use an acrylic scrub pad. It will take alot of work but better than having scratches imo. I had an acrylic tank long ago and vowed never again becasue it was too easy to scratch. Other than that I loved it. Light, strong....but scratches easily.

Rick might have some alternative suggestions.

Just FWIW, from everything I've heard, and in my own experience, the best thing you can do for zoas is put them somewhere that's good for them and then do not disturb them as much as possible. I'm not saying an adjustment is a bad thing at all, but they seem to respond more adversely to constant moving about than most other types of coral.

His wife put it where it has strong flow directly towards the zoa. She had to move it!!!!

That's not what I was saying Mike. I was saying that once you get it in a spot where it should be happy, moving it if it isn't opening up right away or moving it repeatedly to make room for other corals is a sure way to **** zoanthids off and slow up their growth.

Mike they make some plastic scrappers specifically for acrylic. Just do some searches for them. I would use one of them. Acrlic is a PITA when it comes to removing really crusted on coraline. The best medicince is to try and keep it knocked off before it ets too encrusted. I know your wife will love this, but have her try and keep it clean before it builds up. Atleast on the sides that are viewable. Just use a regular acrylic safe mag cleaner for this.

I have the arcrylic safe mag.... I also just ordered the kent marine scraper made for it. I didnt even want her using the mag while i was gone for fear that she might get sand caught in it on accident and scrape it that way..
