Just to add another data point on weird polyps, here is a picture I took of one of my corals. It's a Porites sp. not a zoanthid, I know, but it just goes to show that polyps can be oddities. Every other polyp on this colony has 12 tenticles except for the one just lower than center of the picture... it has 24. The deformity is just barely noticiable with the naked eye.

While taking pictures for my new avatar (which incidently is not an advertisement for any other kind of zoanthid lovers club, especially not one where people are free to say what they want and share resources), I noticed two different polyps in my pinks are splitting. I'll try to grab a picture every night to timeline it.

Could this be the same thing? It's a Hitchhiker. It was a flat mass until about a month ago, then I noticed they were little polyps. The entire colony isabout 1/2x 3/4" the Polyps are extending about 3/8", the top including tentacles is about1/16" The color in the pic is very accurate, brown with a slight blue fluorescence to it strongest at the base of the tentacles. Sorry about the quality of the pic, I had to hold a magnifying glass in front of the lense to get this close.

that looks more like goniopora and alveopora to me.
