Anyone care to share their tank maint. schedule, additives and little things you do to maintain your stunning zoanthids?

I do a water change once a week about 15-25%.....I have a minimalist set up, only a skimmer(Aqua-C remora) and a millenium 2000 power filter is all the filtration I use. I change out the filter pad every other water change and replace it with filter floss and the next water change I put the a fresh filter pad back in it(it does contain carbon). I use Kent coral Vite, essential elements, Iodine, and a kalk slurry. This isn't added all at once but over a period of a few days....The kalk slurry is used less of the supplements. I feed 2x-3x a day with cyclop-eeze and mysis on the last feeding of the day....I target or hand feed the Bubble coral and Purple Deaths, I have been using a surface skimmer connected to the millennium 2000 that has increased the clarity of the water and completely removes any protein film at the surface of the water and I have noticed a deeper penetration of light in the tank. I have developed a keen eye to the conditions of my tank and can tell when things are off a bit. I confess I test the parameters minimally and use water changes to correct any issues with parameters over a period of days if need be. This is the basic schedule I have keep for about the last 15 years of reef keeping wither it be with LPS softies or zoanthids.

this will be a great read if more people replies...

I know everyone's tank is different but this is a good read for newbies or even experience zoas keepers.. there's always room for learning, right? :)

anyway, I'm in the process of establishing my routine in the my 32g revived tank... the plan will be 10%-15% water change every 2 weeks for the most extensive work for maintenance.. will be getting a gsm skimmer in a couple of weeks.. the tank is still fairly new so I'm still learning what it needs...

the 10%-15% waterchange has worked for me in the past so that's what I plan on doing diligently.. ;)

I'll update this or add to it when I think of more things I do..

how about tellling us your routine? I've read your TOTM before and would like to know if you've added anything new to your routine...

Thanks

Before I pooched up my SG big time (at 1.010 for a week in a smaller tank before I was going to frag them all), everything has been going good....

90g tank

1 six line
1 clown golby (passed on a month ago)

SG at 1.025

temps at 80 to 82

lights on 10 hours a day, 250w MH, bulbs are 20k, changed once at 10 months since I haven't had the tank yet for two years

Water changes (50% every 4 months), top off is DI at 0ppm

I run a HOB skimmmer (AquaC) that's under sized for the tank. I feed a cube of food once every 2 to 3 days to feed the snails, frogspawns and the six line now that the clown golby is gone.

Carbon whenever I feel like the water is looking a bit yellow.

I see about 10% growth in the number of polyps every 2 months in most cases, one of them has had the same three polyps for about a year and a half now (looks like a poor mans PPE, sort of the same look but not as nice looking overall)

I have a 80 gallon that is not just zoos, but has 10 varities.

Lighting is 2 x175w 20k halides on for 8 hrs and 4x65w 10k PC bulbs on for 6 hours.

Filter is a millenium 2000 and a Red Sea Prizm (Sucks). Carbon changed monthly and protein skimmer cleaned as needed.

Water movement provided by 4 Penguin 550 powerheads

I don't have room for a sump, or money, that's why my equipment is not top notch.

I do 15 gal water changes monthly with RO/DI water, using IO. Before changing the water I scrub algae and blast the rocks with a powerhead.

The only addidtives I add is Randys' home-made ALK,CAL and MAG supplements. Added weekly.

Top-off water added daily with RO/DI water buffered.

I'm getting my first few frags of zoos next week. Right now my 10 gal. has live rock, a few snails and hermits and nothing else. Do I need to do anything specific before adding these? How should they be fed?

I soak my feet in the reef for an hour a night, good for zoa color...
 jk

I change water about once a month, top off every other day with fresh, Use B-Ionic sparingly everyother day (should be everyday) and feed every other day.

My zoas look good.

20% weekly change
phytoplankton everyday
a LFS homemade coral smorgasboard mix every 3 days
Live baby brine shrimp 2 times a month
and my lights are on 10 hours a day

and my zoos look good

Water Changes: Once a week-5 gallons with 1.026 salinity
Daily Feeding: I feed every day but atleast 4 times a week I will target feed all of my corals including the zoas/palys
Lighting Schedule: moonlights on 24 hrs, blues on 10 hrs, and white/purple on 8 hrs
I also always dip my new zoas with ReVive coral cleaner and sometimes if I notice too many amphipods on a colony, I will pull it and dip it. I don't have that problem anymore though because I have 3 amphipod loving wrasses in my tank. :)

My reef has been up and running for over a year and a half. I have never done much more than a quarterly water changes, and feed, and up until the last quarter, ran an ER CS-6. I have been able to maintain most of my Zoas, but never have much luck with growth. I feed, although not very regular, DT's, and feed Spectrum to all my others that can ingest it. Are there any other things I can do to help my growth of Zoas? It's a 110+ a 40gal breeder sump/fuge. My sg is around 1.023, PH usually 7.6-7.8, cal a little over 300, phos still unsure as the algae is not under control and I don't use a test kit that goes low enough, my alk/kh ranges around 6.7. What else am I missing?

I remember seeing this one.
I do a 30 gallon water change every 2 to 3 weeks and I dose 2 part daily.I feed daily using dainichi fish food and every now and then I will feed with oyster eggs.

5gal WC per every week or 2. Since tank is only 37 gal. Using RedSeaCoral Pro/mixed with D&D Aquarium Solution Salt.

Feed 1 cube of either, Mysis, brine shrimp, cyclopeeze, mixed seafood etc and spirulina flakes. for fish.

Cyclopeeze, soft sinking krill pellets and ground up soft food for the Corals.

Currently I am doing a 10 gallon WC weekly. With Reef Crystals.
I test my parameters weekly.
I drip Kalk and Vinegar with RO/DI for top off water.
I feed the corals every couple days from cyclopeeze, to phytoplankton, to coral frenzy, to mysis for the elegance.
The fish get fed daily. Usually New Life Spectrum dry food for convienance, and PE mysis when I thaw it out.

I do a 5% water change weekly, sometimes skip one a month, if I get busy.

I top off with kalk water.

I dose a capfull of MB7 3 times a week and 6 drips of biofuel a week.

I clean the skimmer cup/neck with every water change and wash the filter sock every 2 weeks.

I change carbon/GFO monthly, somtimes a little longer.

Pumps and glass get cleaned as needed.

I feed the tank a big chunk "Reef Stew" daily-

cyclopeeze
squid
fresh shrimp
PE mysis shrimp
mackerel
gobies
cuttle fish
octopus
rotifers
prawn roe
Nori
krill
fomula 2
Omega One Marine Pellets
Omega One Veggie Pellets
Omega One Flakes
Golden Pearls (mix of sizes)
ESV Spray Dried Phytoplankton
Reef Chili
Reef Roids
Zoplan Zoaplankton

65 gallon display w/ 40 gallon sump.
