zoa vs. acro?

hey all-
when you have zoas in a mixed reef, will they harm acros by growing (smothering?) the base? how does that work? i have both, and i'm getting to the point where zoas are approaching the bases of some of my acros...
and-what about montys?
also- what about palys? (same questions)

I have a sunset montipora that's not having any problems growing right over a colony of zoas. I would have thought it would have been the other way around.

I would think that the zoanthids will eventually cover up and smother most sps.

I had this happen to a birdnest and the zoanthids won.

Zoanthid took over with a quickness. I lost the whole bottom half of the acros.There was 3 different zoas and acros.
