Zoanthid Fungus.

About a week ago, i noticed one of my Zoa colonies was not opening. I didnt think much about it because it is a hot spot for my crabs to meet and mingle. Well, 2 days ago after them not opening for 5 days, i took a closer look and realized they have a fungus. I read in another thread here on RC that there is no known cause/cure for this fungus. Some fellow members said doing a freshwater dip MAY help in this situation. I just did that.

My question is this: Will the fungus spread to the other Zoa colonies? The tank is only a 10g. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Brett, the answer is a resounding YES. With a 10 gallon tank every coral is in close proximity of everything in your tank. It is very possible and probable that it will happen. I have seen this happen at my LFS. I even spoke with the manager about it as I saw one colony with a serious infection. It was touching 4 other large colonies, all lined up in a row. I watched the infection/fungus spread from one colony to the next over a 2 week period I think it was. I suggested to them that they dip, cut away and isolate the infected rock. No one listened and they lost all 5 colonies.

Please be sure that if indeed you allow the colony to stay in the tank, make sure that nothing, no corals, no rock, not even corals which might extend their tentacles at night, to touch it. I would place it in the front corner and watch it like a hawk. I have had great results with an iodine dip if I can catch it on the first day. If you didn't catch it that soon, I would recommend the Peroxide dip that so many have had great results with. I would also do a search on other possible cures.

The peroxide dip is what i was thinking about. In case you haven't already found it. It is 1 cup of peroxide per 10 cups of RO water. ben
