Zoanthid Pox

I did 2 treatments so far. One on Saturday and one on Sunday.

I used one packet of Furan-2 in 1 cup of Fresh Saltwater and mixed with a stirbar for 5 mins. I then put the colony into the cup of water and let them soak for 20 mins then I removed them and rinsed in a bucket of tank water. Then I put the one rock back in the tank. Tonight I do the third treatment and then it will rest for one week.

nanz can you post a pic of your zoas with pox? i seen some in the link but more pics are also helpful.
i think i might have some in mine, but some of mine died and i see mine are covered with a dark brown slime that looks like diatoms or cyano. but i think i seen some spots too.

Here is what it looks like before treatment. I have more pics of it after treatment but they are still in the camera.

I'm dealing with this issue right now as well. I saw them on a small frag of kedd redds. Before I knew it, they had spread to my colony of about 300 tubbs blue and big colonies of radioactive dragon eyes and blowpops. Now I believe I see some on my Rastas. I going to pull all zoas out and treat all like suggested earlier. I thought I was able to catch it in time, but it seems to keep spreading.

Do you think it is more benefical to put them in a QT and keep them separated or put them back into the MT as some furan will probably spread in the water and aid in curing tank.

You really don't want a lot of furan getting in your MT, it's not know how much it can affect your tank's eco system. which is why I suggest having an extra bucket of clean water for rinsing the frags/colonies prior to returning it back to the MT.

just encountered my first case of the pox :thumbdown. i must say its really annoying to have your tank doing so well then out of nowhere pox takes out 3/4 of my zoanthid colonies..my pallys weren't affected ..tried the fresh water dip, then the iodine dip, followed by air drying to no success. started doing a lil research and came across furan 2. did my first treatment of that tonight.. hope all goes well seeing how these lil guys aren't cheap .. will keep everyone posted.

thanks

I'm upping the dose on mine. 2 colonies not responding as well. Last dip was 2 packs in 1-1/5 gal water, per 650. Some of you use furan as strong as 1 packet per cup? Any effects from such a strong dose?

Does anyone know how long the solution is good for? Does it start to break down quickly or can a stock solution be used for the treatment?

I use one time treatment pet bucket. Meaning once I finish dipping all, I dump that batch. I don't re-use.

Snake good to know they're starting to do better. I've don'e 1 pack in a red plastic cup during a treatment, 1 frag was severly infected.

My dose is usually very strong, 1 packet to 2 cups water. I let the frag I'm dipping sit for 25 minutes. I've only ever lost 1 frag this way. It was the first frag I ever dipped, I think it was too far gone to begin with. I don't know how quickly the solution breaks down but I usually use it several times in the same "dipping session" if you will. I routinely run into issues in my zoo frag tank due to new introductions but haven't had an issue with the zoos in my DT or Zoa garden in almost a year.

I have done the treatment for a week, now waiting for a week to start back.Should I only do one treatment if no pox visiable.

Me if the polyps don't look stressed then I continue just to catch any persistant pox still holding but not showing on the polyps.
